6 steps to getting grounded & feeling more in control of your life {Podcast Ep. 74}

Ever feel like you’re too up in the air, indecisive or just pulled in way too many directions? Yeah, me too. This post is all about how to get more grounded in life so you feel more in control.

With the Fall season approaching, the desire for feeling more connected & grounded is just so, so important. As a mom, each year gets increasingly more hectic and has been nothing but dodgeballs coming seemingly at the speed of light. If it isn’t one thing, it seems like there is another one that pops right up. It is a continual cycle that can test your endurance, your patience and your strength.

From what I’ve learned is that the best thing to do when it feels like life is getting a little too hectic, is to make getting grounded a top priority. I have several ways I like to do it AND in episode 74 of the Blissful Ambitious podcast, I’m breaking down 6 things I learned and practiced to help me get to that feeling of being more in control of life.

6 things you can do to feel more grounded & in control of your life:

1.Mini meditations/deep breaths.

Put your hand on your heart, take a few deep breaths ( I really like box breathing ) and ask yourself what it is that you truly need in this moment. This is an everyday, moment to moment practice for me. Whether I just need to calm myself through staring at piles of laundry or sitting down and trying to create a grocery list.

If it takes a while for you to actually slow down and get present, you may want to light a bit of palo santo and then make yourself a list of personal affirmations that you can repeat to keep you focused and reprogram your mind.

2. Declutter & organize your home.

If you ever feel overwhelmed, out of control or unclear, it is time to conquer your clutter and organize all of the clutter in your home. Why? Because your home is a reflection of what is going on inside of you and you need to energetically lighten your load. When you uplift your environment, you uplift yourself. 3. Write down your monthly goals and intentions.

For me, this one is a game changer. When I started doing morning pages, I really began to feel more grounded in my life. It felt like my mind wasn’t so overwhelmed with so many different open tabs and I just felt a little bit more in control.

Each month, I like to set intentions for what I want to create. If you know where you want to go, you’re more likely to actually get there. Getting your ideas/thoughts/wants out on paper helps you get your mind to focus on specific goals.

Another way you want to get your mind more calm and centered, start a habit of list making.

Here are a few lists that I like to make in my notebook that really help me find some clarity and calm:

  • things I need to do

  • grocery / home supplies list

  • books I want to read

  • places I want to go

  • birthday cards and gifts to buy

  • home projects to be completed

4. Identify where you’re stuck and change your routine.

Sometimes blocks we can’t even see can get in our way and the routines and habits we adapt to tend to keep us repeating the same things. So, in order to change things up a little bit, you can begin by just switching up your daily habits and your routine.

Take a different route to work, go to a different coffee shop, check out a new workout class. Try a new skin care routine, wear a different perfume or go shopping for some new clothes that actually fit your body. Sometimes, it may even just be that you wear a new lipstick color and that can completely shake up your comfort zone routines.

5. Surrender the current situation.

Many times when we are frustrated or feel out of control, so we work overtime trying to fix those things. We may even over think, over strategize, over analyze and then end up exhausting our mind and body. I once read a book that really helped me work through this, Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff. It really helps you understand that we don’t have control over everything and sometimes it is best for us to just accept things as they are and stop the resistance.

Whenever you are in doubt of where to go or what to do, just surrender the situation to a higher power. Then, take a cleansing ritual bath and a nap!

6. Take quick, inspired action.

Typically, after you unwind and surrender…that’s when creative inspiration strikes. The best thing to do when you have a brilliant idea…take immediate action. That’s when the universe really moves to support you! And when you take quick action in the direction of you dreams, you tend to feel a sense of focus and grounding, which will ultimately help you feel more grounded.

How Rituals Can Help You Unlock The Next Version Of Yourself (Podcast Ep. 37}

This post is going to show you how you can romanticize your life by creating rituals.

I often talk about creating morning rituals for yourself, especially in my blissful living life decluttering workshop. One question I often get is "How do I create a morning ritual when I have a full, busy family and feel like I have no time?" The truth is that rituals don't have to be a full hour morning routine, it can be just a small extra special effort you give to one moment in your day. 

For example, I was listening to Oprah's Super Soul Conversations podcast the other day and she said her personal ritual is having tea. Just a moment out of her day to have a cup of tea.

Boiling the water in a beautiful pot, using her favorite Jasmine tea bags because of how delicious it smells and sipping it out of a beautiful tea cup. You do it in a beautiful and special way because it feels special to you.

Creating rituals in my own life truly helped me open myself up to a more fulfilling and meaningful life. Even just small shifts throughout my day, over time began to help me see more clearly what I truly wanted for myself and in my life. I truly believe there are so many benefits to incorporating rituals in your day. Here are a few examples:

HEALING BENEFITS OF RITUALS:

1. Stress Reduction

  • Regular Practice: Engaging in rituals can help reduce stress by providing a sense of predictability and control in an often unpredictable world.

  • Mindfulness: Many rituals involve elements of mindfulness, helping individuals focus on the present moment and alleviate anxiety.

2. Emotional Healing

  • Processing Grief: Rituals surrounding loss, such as funerals or memorial services, offer a structured way to process grief and honor the deceased.

  • Emotional Expression: Rituals provide a safe space for expressing emotions, facilitating emotional release and healing.

3. Community and Connection

  • Social Support: Participating in communal rituals strengthens social bonds, offering emotional support and a sense of belonging.

  • Shared Experiences: Rituals create shared experiences, enhancing empathy and understanding among participants.

4. Personal Growth and Transformation

  • Self-Reflection: Rituals often involve periods of reflection, which can lead to personal insights and growth.

  • Symbolic Change: Rituals can mark transitions or changes in life, helping individuals move forward with a sense of closure and renewal.

5. Mental Clarity and Focus

  • Structured Practice: The repetitive nature of rituals can help sharpen focus and improve concentration.

  • Mental Resilience: Engaging in rituals builds mental discipline and resilience, helping individuals cope better with challenges.

6. Spiritual Connection

  • Inner Peace: Many rituals are spiritual in nature, fostering a deep sense of inner peace and connection to something greater than oneself.

  • Meaning and Purpose: Rituals can imbue life with meaning and purpose, providing comfort and direction.

7. Physical Health

  • Relaxation Response: Rituals that involve meditation, deep breathing, or gentle movements (like yoga) can trigger the body’s relaxation response, reducing blood pressure and improving overall health.

  • Healthy Habits: Regular rituals can promote healthier lifestyle choices and consistent self-care practices.

8. Cultural Identity and Continuity

  • Preservation of Traditions: Rituals help preserve cultural heritage and traditions, fostering a sense of identity and continuity.

  • Intergenerational Bonding: Participating in rituals with family members can strengthen bonds across generations, promoting family cohesion and legacy.

9. Enhanced Creativity

  • Creative Expression: Rituals that involve creative activities (like art, music, or dance) can enhance creativity and provide a therapeutic outlet for self-expression.

  • Inspiration and Insight: Engaging in rituals can open the mind to new ideas and insights, fostering a more creative approach to problem-solving.

10. Resilience and Coping

  • Rituals of Resilience: Rituals can serve as coping mechanisms during difficult times, providing comfort and a sense of stability.

  • Adaptability: Regular rituals can help individuals adapt to changes and build resilience against future stressors.

By incorporating rituals into daily life, you truly can experience these multifaceted healing benefits, enhancing your overall well-being and quality of life. I promise it is worth trying.

That's what rituals are meant to really be. Sipping your morning coffee out of a beautiful mug you absolutely adore, it doesn't have to look like much more than that. It's a way to make small moments really special and self nurturing. Whether you realize it or not, its connecting you to your own personal power and mindfulness. You should really tune into the moment to make the most of its benefits. 

A few rituals I love. . .

-lighting my favorite candles when doing anything at home

-using bath salts when I take a hot bath

-saying morning prayers and affirmations to myself as I brush my teeth

-putting essential oils or this collagen elixir in my water bottle

-face masks on Sunday nights

-arranging flowers and placing them around the home

-putting my favorite belly butter on my belly every night (this has become my favorite pregnancy ritual)

-simple yoga stretches at home while taking a few minutes to breathe deeply

Rituals don't have to be difficult, allow yourself to find what works best for you.
