Why you should paint your antiques black. . .

When anyone I know finds a special piece from an antique shop or vintage boutique, I personally always think it should be painted black. There is something about a black piece that makes such a sophisticated statement to the space, no matter what the color scheme, style or situation. So, if you have found yourself with an adorable piece of furniture that needs a little love, get yourself a can of black paint and make that baby over. 

I tend to prefer very matte or very high gloss finishes. Farrow & Ball makes a fantastic oil based paint for furniture, I also love Valspar in Old Kettle Black. Decorating inspiration: set up your dining table with style

As a designer, I am always asked questions that push me to think outside the box. One of the things I find that my clients most struggle with, is what I call the 'finishing touch'. After you put together gorgeous furniture, you have got to accessorize with style, personality and function. 

Coffee tables seem to have evolved to one of the most important style makers in the home. However, one place I find that is most overlooked is the undone dining table. What do you put on the dining table while you aren't having a dinner party? I've never really been one to set the table before a dinner party, as I like to be inspired for each party on the fly. 

Adding elements of style to your dining room table is a fabulous way to keep your home looking chic and bring new, vibrant energy to the space that is not only used for eating but also for socializing, browsing catalogs, playing games and perhaps doing little weekend work.
