Organizing my home office - The Decorista HQ

Most of you have noticed that I finally painted my bedroom black and it has been the most amazing change. It makes such a difference and motivates me to get every part of my space perfected. Because my bedroom suite is so large and because of the wall of HUGE windows, there is so much light. I like to keep my home office next to all the natural light. The only problem in having a work space in a bedroom is the storage of supplies, etc. I have a small little corner of space next to the desk that was in need of some organization system, mostly because my desk has no drawers. I'm all for style and less about practicality, not super functional but hey, that's me. I'd been on the hunt for something gold (obviously), something that could hold all of my utensils (i.e. journals, pens, business cards, etc). All that stuff piles on my desk and is just too cluttery for me. I even have to use a part of the window seal to stash items and I just can't stand having anything on them. 

Found this baby at my local antique mall for about $30. LOVE it. It's gold and perfect little shelving unit that I could use forever. It could be a side table, a small bar cart, a bathroom storage piece but for me and for this space its going to be my office organization system. The two bottom shelves are mirrored and in an antique finish, which I love. The top one is glass so easy to see right through. It fits so perfectly in this little space. 

This is why I love finding unique little items at antique malls. Now for super cheap I have a stylish little organization system in my home office and my desktop and window are clutter free. 

How to style a chic bookcase: a la Olivia Chantecaille

Ever since I got my brass Milo Baughman etagere, I've been obsessed with stalking brass bookcases. Not that I hadn't done that before, it's just that this time around I've gotten fanatic about them. Then I found what I think may be my favorite mix. Olivia Chantecaille, creative director of her family cosmetics line,  did a home tour for One Kings Lane & I fell madly for her style. 

The brass etagere is full of books, boxes, family photos, unique objects with interesting shapes and surrounded by art. I love the way art is hung behind the etagere to accentuate the small vignettes. In fact, I pretty much love everything about this entire room including all of the chairs and the very stylish coffee table. Is that a brass planter I see? Gotta have one of those for my coffee table immediately. 

Books play such an important role in the style of all of this. I have a ridiculous amount of books, so this is right up my alley. Truth be told, I need more books. Today, I may have to head over to the local Half Price Book store and see what I can get my hands on. I love oversized books with gorgeous photos, especially vintage books. There is something so very cool about the way they used to make books. Before the internet, they were the expression of information and visuals. I especially love the travel ones.
