As a woman in business for over the last decade, I’ve experienced what it feels like to get burnt out, feel overwhelmed or stuck in a creative rut. You know the typical day to day, keeping up with e-mails, coming up with catchy blog post ideas, figuring out where to find the best in fabrics, new ways to pair lighting, mastering 17 different social media platforms, not to mention finding my next client.
With the added pressure of uncertain finances so many of us face early in our careers, I know just how challenging it is to feel inspired for your big creative idea, or next move. It makes the reality of the entrepreneurial dream sometimes feel like a draining nightmare.
Sometimes the best way to pierce that false reality is with a healthy dose of gratitude & a little bit of perspective.
3 tips to busting through the creativity rut:
1. Be grateful you have a passion. I don't mean to trivialize your problem but many women aren't able to experience the freedom we do as women entrepreneurs. If you were lucky enough to find something you feel so passionate about and you're able to commit to it daily, consider yourself as having struck gold! Just a few moments in gratitude can sometimes be just what you need to get you back on track.
I often look to my office to be a source of inspiration for my gratitude. I love where I work. I love that I get to work from home. . .
2. Get on the phone. I like to encourage my clients to form a few relationships with other people who are on a similar path to their own. If you don't have a network just yet, reach out to someone who you think might be on the same page as you are. Have a good conversation about what's going on in your lives and business, discuss what's working and what isn't, ask specific questions. Sometimes in a phone conversation I'll get more than I do from reading a book. Empowering and enriching conversations are key to growth and expansion.
3. Find a unique method of sharing your message. If you have been doing the same thing over and over for years, try something new. Share your message in a unique way. Think about new and creative ways you can get your voice out there. For me, a big one was writing the book I had always dreamed about creating.

Sometimes, in order to get inspired for a blog post, design project, presentation or something else, I will go around and grab things around the home that are currently inspiring me. I will just create a little flat lay for myself of things that tell a little story of my current mood.

Before I wrote my book, I also created a series of podcasts for my love list newsletter. I never really did anything with them because I couldn't edit them to the perfect that I truly desired. Of course, perfectionism sometimes creates serious procrastination. As I was writing this blog post, I thought. . .hey. why not just share. Listen to the podcast here.
