I have a confession: I had a green bedroom before green bedrooms were cool.
I chose Secret Garden by Sherwin-Williams for my bedroom for one simple reason: I'm obsessed with this color. It's a deep, earthy green with a little olive in it, and when I was picking my paint colors, I knew I wanted my bedroom to do one job really, really well. Help me sleep. Like, actually sleep.
Here's what I've learned: good sleep starts long before your head hits the pillow. When your space feels calm and wrapped-up, your body gets the memo that it's safe to slow down. For me, a deep, moody color is a big part of regulating my nervous system at the end of the day (I share my full routine in my sleep post). Every single night, walking into this room feels like climbing into a cozy little cocoon. Phone down, candle lit, and my whole body just exhales.
As a mom running my own business, I'm "on" all day long. My bedroom is the one room that's just for me. It's where I recharge, journal, dream big and actually rest. And this green holds all of that so beautifully.
I paired it with a black tufted velvet headboard, layers of cream and green velvet pillows, an olive waffle coverlet, black lamps, fresh tulips and (of course) a candle on the nightstand. It's moody, it's calm, and it's hands-down my favorite room in the house.
So when the 2027 Colors of the Year started rolling in, I'll admit I did a little happy dance. Benjamin Moore picked Webster Green. Behr picked Grounded, a deep, earthy olive that sits right next to the green that's been on my walls for years. Sherwin-Williams and Dulux went green too. That's four major paint brands, all landing on green. Green isn't just having a moment. It's the color of 2027, and I don't think it's going anywhere.
If you've been thinking about painting your bedroom green (or adding a few green touches), this post is for you. I've rounded up 20+ dreamy green bedroom ideas, from dark and moody to soft and serene, plus everything I've learned about why green works so well in a bedroom, what it means and what feng shui says about it. Because if you know me, you know I love a room that looks gorgeous and feels good to be in.
Let's get into it.
Why Green Bedrooms Are Everywhere Right Now
It's not just you. Green is the color story of 2027, and almost every major paint brand landed somewhere in the green family this year.
What I love about this shift is that it's a move away from the all-white, all-gray everything we've been living with for years. People want rooms that feel warm, grounded and connected to nature, and nothing does that quite like green.
And here's the thing: green isn't really a "trend" color. It's the color of trees, gardens and grass. It's been in beautiful homes for centuries. That's exactly why I've never gotten tired of mine.
Already loving green in other rooms? I shared my favorite green sofa living room ideas too, if you want to carry the color through your whole home.
The Meaning of Green (and Why It Feels So Good)
Green is the color of life. Think new leaves in spring, a fresh garden, a walk in the woods. It's tied to growth, renewal, balance, health and abundance, which is why so many of us feel instantly calmer around it.
There's a practical reason, too. Green sits right in the middle of the color spectrum, so it's one of the easiest colors on our eyes. It doesn't shout like red or chill a room like icy blue. It just feels steady and restful, exactly what you want in the room where you sleep.
Green in Feng Shui: Why It Belongs in Your Bedroom
If you read my post on why you should paint your front door green according to feng shui, you already know I love this part. Feng shui is all about how the energy (chi) in your home flows, and color is one of the easiest ways to shift it.
Green is the Wood element
In feng shui, there are five elements: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water. Green belongs to Wood, the element of growth, vitality, healing and new beginnings. Picture a tree: rooted at the bottom, always reaching up. That's the energy green brings into a space.
Where green works best in the bagua
The bagua is the feng shui energy map of your home. Green is especially supportive in two areas:
East (Family & Health): supports health, healing and harmony at home
Southeast (Wealth & Abundance): the money corner, tied to prosperity and growth
So if your bedroom sits in the east or southeast part of your home, a green bedroom is a beautiful match. If it doesn't, you can still use green. You'll just want to balance it well (more on that below).
Is green a good bedroom color in feng shui?
Yes, with one little tip. Your bedroom is a yin space, meant for rest, romance and recovery. Wood energy is naturally active and expansive, so the best greens for a bedroom are the softer, deeper, more muted ones: sage, olive, forest, moss. Save bright lime and neon green for an office or a creative corner where you want that buzz.
This is exactly why I love Secret Garden. It's deep and earthy, so it feels grounded and sleepy instead of energizing.

How to balance green in your bedroom
Add Earth tones like cream, camel, tan and terracotta to ground the energy. My cream linens and textured pillows do this job.
Add a touch of Water with black or deep navy. In feng shui, Water nourishes Wood, which is one reason my black headboard and lamps feel so right against green walls.
Go easy on Fire colors (lots of red) in the bedroom, though a little blush or pink adds softness and romance.
Bring in real plants or fresh flowers for living Wood energy. My nightstand tulips are a non-negotiable.
Keep it clutter-free. Clutter blocks chi, and no paint color can fix that.
When you'd want a green bedroom
You're in a season of healing, recovery or starting over
You want to invite more abundance and growth into your life
You struggle to wind down and want a calmer, more restful room
You miss nature and want your bedroom to feel like a retreat
When I painted my bedroom green, I was building a brand-new chapter for me and my son. Looking back, it makes total sense that I was drawn to the color of growth and new beginnings.
7 Reasons to Paint Your Bedroom Green
It's calming. Green is restful on the eyes and naturally soothing, which is what you want at bedtime.
It goes with everything. Wood, brass, black, cream, blush, leather, rattan. Green is basically a neutral that happens to have personality.
It makes a room feel luxe. A deep green instantly looks expensive, especially with velvet and warm lighting.
It's cozy without being dark and gloomy. Moody greens wrap the room in warmth instead of feeling cold like charcoal can.
It works for everyone. Green is gender-neutral, so it's perfect for a shared bedroom.
It's timeless. Green has been a staple in classic homes for centuries. You won't be repainting next year.
It brings nature indoors. Especially if you don't have a great view, green walls make your bedroom feel like a garden retreat.
How to Choose the Right Green for Your Bedroom
A few tips before you pick:
Always sample first. Green shifts a lot with light. Paint a big swatch (or use peel-and-stick samples) and look at it morning and night.
Check your light. North-facing rooms make greens look cooler and darker. South-facing rooms warm them up.
Don't fear dark green in a small room. A deep color can blur the corners and make a small bedroom feel cozy and intentional, not cramped.
Pick your finish. Matte or eggshell gives that soft, velvety look on walls.
Secret Garden has a really low light reflectance (around 8), so it reads deep and rich. In my room, it pairs beautifully with crisp white crown molding.
20+ Dreamy Green Bedroom Ideas
01 | My Secret Garden Bedroom
I had to start with my own. This is my bedroom, painted Secret Garden by Sherwin-Williams, and at night with the lamps and candles glowing, it's my favorite place in the world.
The black tufted velvet bed with nailhead trim is the anchor, and I layered it with cream linen bedding, textured cream and taupe pillows and an olive velvet quilted throw that ties right back to the walls.
Above the bed, three black-framed line art prints keep things modern, and the white crown molding gives it that classic touch. My black lacquer nightstand with brass hardware brings a little vintage glam, and the white lamps with black shades keep the whole room feeling crisp.
On the other wall, a large tapestry hangs over a white carved dresser, styled with a brass lamp, candlesticks and (always) fresh white tulips. A tall black floor mirror bounces the light around, and a chunky jute rug grounds it all. It's moody, warm and luxe without feeling stuffy, and it's exactly the kind of room I want to come home to.
Steal this look: Pair deep green walls with a black velvet bed, cream linen bedding and an olive velvet throw, then mix in black, brass and white accents and one oversized piece of art.
Read this post on how I used Feng Shui to create a calm bedroom.
02 | Forest Green with a Vintage Rug & Organic Textures
The DIY Playbook Color: Benjamin Moore – Essex Green
This one is proof that dark green walls don't have to feel heavy. The deep forest green is warmed up with a vintage-style rug, a woven seagrass basket and a light wood nightstand, while the black dresser with brass pulls adds a tailored, grown-up edge. The arched wood mirror softens all those straight lines, and a simple vase of flowering branches brings in that living Wood energy. Keeping the ceiling and trim white lets the green feel rich without closing in the room.
Steal this look: Layer a vintage-style rug, one black statement piece and natural textures like seagrass, light wood and ceramic against deep green walls.
03 | Color-Drenched Olive with a Black Canopy Bed
via @lutzgohome
Now this is a moody green bedroom. The walls, paneling, crown molding and even the tray ceiling are all drenched in the same deep olive, so the whole room wraps around you like a velvet box. A black arched canopy bed adds drama without blocking the view, and that tiered crystal chandelier? Pure old-Hollywood glamour. Two rust boucle swivel chairs make a cozy little sitting spot at the foot of the bed, and the black floral art, toile curtains and scalloped lamp shades give it that collected, slightly vintage feel I love.
Steal this look: Paint walls, trim and ceiling the same olive green, then add one black statement piece (like a canopy bed), something sparkly overhead and a pop of rust or cognac.
04 | Boutique Hotel Green with a Mural Wall
Ever stayed in a hotel room so good you wanted to move in? This is that room. Deep green walls and built-ins set the mood, and a dreamy painted landscape mural behind the bed turns the whole wall into art. A glowing paper lantern stands in for a bedside lamp, the arched mirrored wardrobe bounces light around, and a sage velvet throw ties the bedding back to the walls. The cane bench and that unexpected golden carpet add warmth and a little Parisian flair.
Steal this look: Go big with a mural or oversized landscape art behind the bed, hang a paper lantern pendant and add a velvet throw that matches your walls.
05 | Muted Olive Walls with Black Doors & Lush Plants
If deep forest green feels like too much commitment, this softer, earthy olive is your answer. It's calm and grown-up, and the black-painted doors and baseboards give it a sharp, modern edge. What really makes this room, though, is the greenery. A monstera in a woven basket, a leafy plant on a rattan stand and a big rubber plant bring the color to life (and in feng shui, real plants are living Wood energy). Add an arched floor mirror, a chunky knit throw, striped bedding and a few abstract prints, and it feels relaxed, collected and totally livable.
Steal this look: Pair muted olive walls with black interior doors and trim, then layer in three or more potted plants in woven baskets and stands.
06 | Emerald Velvet Curtains & a Botanical Gallery Wall
Who says you need green walls to have a green bedroom? Here the walls stay light, and the green comes in through floor-to-ceiling emerald velvet curtains and a grid gallery wall of moody botanical prints.
A vintage leather steamer trunk with brass hardware steps in as a nightstand (so clever), and a dark wood canopy bed draped in white fabric keeps it airy and romantic. A textured ceramic lamp, palm fronds in a glass vase and a jute runner finish it off with a little old-world, safari-chic charm.
Steal this look: Hang green velvet curtains all the way to the ceiling, frame a grid of botanical prints in matching black frames and use a vintage trunk as a nightstand.
07 | Eclectic Boho Olive with a Wallpapered Ceiling
Image via @sgardnerstyle
This room is pure joy, and proof that olive green can be playful. The walls are a rich, earthy olive, but look up: a gold and black palm-print wallpaper on the ceiling and a gold bubble chandelier make it feel like a little jewel box.
A feathered juju hat hangs over a black bed piled with mudcloth and kilim pillows, and that fuchsia pom-pom blanket is the unexpected pop that makes everything sing. A brass swing-arm sconce, a macramé plant hanger and yellow tulips on a round wood side table finish the eclectic, well-traveled vibe.
Steal this look: Wallpaper the ceiling in a bold gold print, then mix global textiles with one bright accent color (like fuchsia) against olive walls.
08 | Sage Limewash Walls with Soft, Organic Textures
Design: @tayfuscodesign
Photography: @margaretrose_photography
Limewash gives green walls a soft, cloudy movement that flat paint just can't, and in this gentle sage it feels like sleeping inside a watercolor. An oversized paper lantern floats overhead, wood ceiling beams add warmth, and a cane headboard keeps everything light and organic. This room feels oh so dreamy, no?
Blush checked pillows, a chunky knit throw and rumpled white linen make the bed look so inviting, while an arched beaded mirror and lidded seagrass baskets add texture without clutter. Calm, airy and so restful.
Steal this look: Try a sage limewash (or a limewash-effect paint) on your walls, hang an oversized paper lantern and add blush pillows and natural woven textures.
09 | Soft Olive with Washed Oak & Leafy Prints
Image & Design by @chloescosycottage / color is Dulux Overtly Olive 🫒
A softer olive with a hint of sage is so easy to live with, and this room shows how pretty it looks in daylight. A washed oak French-style dresser and a wood bed frame keep it warm, while leaf-print bedding and an olive fringed throw repeat the wall color in a subtle way. A cream armchair with a scalloped green pillow makes a sweet reading corner, and the brass chandelier with linen shades adds just enough polish. Bonus tip: a TV that displays art blends right into a green wall.
Steal this look: Pair soft olive walls with light washed wood, leafy botanical bedding and one cream accent chair with a green pillow.
10 | Olive Linen on Olive Plaster Walls
Design by @bienvenuechezginette
Tone-on-tone olive is one of the most calming looks you can create. The walls have a soft plaster texture, and the rumpled olive linen duvet melts right into them, so the whole room feels like one big exhale. Tan and white linen pillows, a fringed throw, dried pampas grass and a stack of old books on a simple wood nightstand keep it earthy and grounded. A woven basket, flowing linen curtains and a chunky jute rug finish the slow-living, sleep-in-on-Sunday mood.
Steal this look: Match your bedding to your walls with an olive linen duvet, then layer in tan, cream and natural textures. Skip the perfectly made bed. Linen is meant to look lived in.
11 | English Cottage Olive with Gingham & Tapestries
Stunning Home via The Nordroom // color: Little Greene’s ‘Invisible Green’
Walls, paneling, ceiling and even the door are all drenched in olive, and with that afternoon sun pouring in, it glows. A pair of vintage tapestries brings in old-world romance, and an ornate gilded chandelier adds a little drama overhead. The bedding is where the fun is: green gingham, blue ticking stripe bolsters and a block print quilt, all mixed together like a well-loved English country home. A rattan bed tray with a book and fresh greenery? That's my kind of slow morning.
Steal this look: Drench the room in olive, then mix gingham, stripes and a floral or block print in your bedding. Hang vintage tapestries or textile art instead of framed prints.
12 | Olive & Mustard with a Cane Headboard
beautiful bedroom via @ikigai_by_sian
Olive and mustard are one of my favorite color combos, and this room nails it. A carved wood cane headboard gives the bed a vintage, well-traveled feel, while a mustard velvet pillow and a quilted mustard velvet bench at the foot of the bed bring a warm, golden glow.
A dark green velvet throw ties back to the walls, and olive linen curtains let the light filter in softly. A macramé plant hanger, a brass sconce and a vintage-style rug make it feel cozy and collected without trying too hard.
Steal this look: Pair olive walls with a cane headboard and bring in mustard velvet through one pillow and a bench at the foot of the bed.
13 | Sage Paneled Walls with French Antiques
Image & Design by @Thestylepad_uk
Soft sage, picture-frame molding and antiques make this room feel like a little countryside escape in France. The paneled walls are painted the same sage, so the molding adds texture without breaking up the color. A carved French oak bed, an antique oak dresser and an ornate gold mirror bring in that collected, old-world charm, and a gilded oval floral painting is the sweetest touch. A sage knit throw with tassels, a gingham pillow, a brass floor lamp and white roses keep it soft, romantic and so serene.
Steal this look: Add picture-frame molding and paint it the same sage as your walls, then layer in warm antique wood and a gilded mirror or frame.
14 | Sage with Gingham, Plaid & Fern Prints
Image & Design by @homewith_victoria
Mixing patterns can feel scary, but keeping everything in the same green family makes it foolproof. Here, ruffled gingham shams, a plaid duvet and a fern print comforter all play together beautifully against sage paneled walls. A sage velvet pillow with a ruffle edge adds softness and texture, and the nightstand keeps it simple with dried hydrangeas, a reed diffuser and a linen lamp. It's cozy, a little cottagecore and perfect for fall and winter.
Steal this look: Mix three patterns (a check, a plaid and a botanical print) in the same shade of green, then add one solid velvet pillow to ground them.

15 | Olive Board & Batten with Block Print Pillows
Image & Design by @ourbungalowjourney_
Not ready to paint the whole room? An olive board and batten wall behind the bed gives you all the drama with half the commitment. The rest of the walls stay white, so the green really pops. A scalloped wood headboard, ruffled block print pillows in pink and blue-green and a cream botanical quilt make it feel soft and a little English.
The antique wood nightstand, landscape painting, vintage equestrian print and a big ceramic vase of greenery give it that layered, collected-over-time look. Love that brass and black sconce, too.
Steal this look: DIY a board and batten wall behind your bed, paint it olive and mount wall sconces on it to free up nightstand space.
16 | Color Drenched Deep Olive Green with Modern Furnishings
Image & Design by @chelseabeiberhome
Worried a color-drenched deep olive room will feel too dark? This one shows exactly how to keep it bright. The walls, trim and window casing are all the same rich olive, so the lighter pieces do the heavy lifting. Modern brass swing-arm sconces add a clean, sculptural touch and pools of warm light right where you need them. Light blue gingham bedding and a pale cane bed frame bounce brightness back into the room, so the green feels moody but never gloomy. A black nightstand, a dark wood dresser and a faded vintage-style rug keep it grounded.
Steal this look: In a dark olive room, go light on the bed (pale bedding and a light wood or cane frame) and add modern swing-arm sconces. Plug-in versions need no electrician.
17 | Deep Green Half-Paneled Walls & a Painted Door
Design by @our.end.fourterrace // color: The Ranger by @coatpaints and above is White Whisper by @johnstonespaint
This is such a smart way to use a deep green. The paneling only goes halfway up the wall, with a little ledge on top for styling, and the cream above keeps the room bright. Painting the door, door frame and baseboards the same deep green ties it all together and makes the doorway feel like a design moment. A striped headboard, a brass sconce with a pleated shade, a rustic wood nightstand and a woven basket give it that cozy English cottage feel, and the brass door knobs are the perfect finishing touch.
Steal this look: Paint half-height paneling, the door and the trim the same deep green, keep the upper walls cream and swap in brass door hardware.
18 | A Dark Olive Accent Wall (Before & After) by Liz
Design by Liz @renovaton_at14 // Wall Color: Farrow & Ball Reduced Green
If you need proof that one wall can change everything, this is it. Before, the picture-frame molding was painted a light greige. It was pretty, but it blended right into the background. After a coat of dark olive green, that same molding suddenly looks custom and expensive, and the whole room has a focal point.
The rest of the room stays white, so this small bedroom still feels bright and open. Olive pillows, gray and white ticking stripe bedding and a cream upholstered bed tie into the wall, while brass sconces, oak nightstands and a little potted plant warm it all up. Same bed, same furniture, totally different room. That's the power of green.
Steal this look: Paint just the wall behind your bed dark olive (molding and all), add two wall sconces and pull the green into your bedding with a pair of olive pillows. It's a one-weekend project with a big payoff.
Design by Liz @renovaton_at14 // Wall Color: Farrow & Ball Reduced Green
18 | Boho Olive with Woven Lighting & Hanging Plants
This one feels like a treehouse in the best way. Soft olive walls, a crinkly olive gauze coverlet and olive curtains layer the green from floor to ceiling, while ochre velvet pillows add that warm, golden contrast. The woven rattan pendant and matching woven wall sconce bring in so much texture, and plants are everywhere: hanging from the ceiling, trailing from a wall hook and towering in a big belly basket. A wood headboard, a rattan nightstand and a vintage rug keep it earthy and lived-in.
Steal this look: Swap your ceiling light for a woven pendant, hang a plant or two from ceiling hooks and pair olive bedding with ochre or mustard pillows.
19 | Luxe Color-Drenched Sage Bedroom Retreat by Hunter
Photo: @CameronPremo // Design & Style by Hunter Premo // wall color: Sherwin Williams Evergreen Fog
Want a sage bedroom that feels like a five-star hotel? This is the one. Walls, paneling, crown molding, the tray ceiling and even the French door are all drenched in soft sage, so the room feels seamless and serene. I want to move in!
A brass and crystal drum chandelier adds the sparkle, and an oversized arched gold mirror bounces light everywhere. The cream upholstered bed is layered with velvet pillows in olive, charcoal and taupe plus a leather lumbar, and a woven leather bench and a plush cream rug finish it with quiet luxury.
Steal this look: Drench the room in sage (ceiling included), then add one showstopper light fixture, an oversized floor mirror and velvet and leather pillows on a cream bed.
20 | A Soft Green Ceiling (the Fifth Wall) by Erika Lima
Design & styling by @erikalimamcelhaney
I saved my favorite for last. If you're not ready for green walls, look up. Painting just the ceiling a soft green wraps the whole room in color and makes it feel instantly cozier and more intimate, almost like a canopy over your bed.
Here, the walls are a warm, cloudy plaster finish, so the green ceiling feels soft and romantic instead of heavy. A white pleated pendant hangs from a plaster medallion on a brass chain, and gilt-framed landscape paintings, a sculptural candle sconce and an olive ruffled lamp tie the green back down to eye level.
It's proof that you don't need to go all in to get all the feeling. Sometimes one surface is all it takes to turn a bedroom into a true sanctuary.
Steal this look: Paint your ceiling a soft sage or olive, add a ceiling medallion and a statement pendant, then echo the green with one lamp or accent at eye level.
What Colors Go with a Green Bedroom?
Cream and warm white: soft, classic and calming (my go-to)
Black: modern, tailored and grounding
Blush and dusty pink: romantic and fresh
Camel, cognac and tan: warm and collected
Brass and gold: instantly luxe
Terracotta and rust: earthy and cozy
Natural wood: the easiest pairing of all
Green Bedroom FAQ
Is green a good color for a bedroom? Yes! Green is one of the most restful colors for a bedroom. It's easy on the eyes, connected to nature and naturally calming, which makes it great for winding down.
Is green good for sleep? Many people find muted greens like sage, olive and forest especially soothing at night. Deeper, softer greens tend to feel more restful than bright, saturated ones.
What does feng shui say about a green bedroom? Green represents the Wood element, tied to growth, health and new beginnings. It's especially supportive in the east (family and health) and southeast (wealth) areas of your home. For a bedroom, choose softer, deeper greens and balance them with earthy neutrals.
What is the best green paint color for a bedroom? It depends on your light and your vibe. For dark and moody, I love Sherwin-Williams Secret Garden (it's in my bedroom!). For something softer, try a sage like Sherwin-Williams Clary Sage. Always sample first.
Is dark green too dark for a small bedroom? Not at all. Dark green can actually make a small room feel cozy and intentional. Add warm lighting, a mirror and lighter bedding to keep it balanced.
What is Benjamin Moore's 2027 Color of the Year? Benjamin Moore chose Webster Green HC-130, a rich, classic green from its Historical Color Collection.
What color trim goes with a dark green bedroom? A soft, warm white is classic. For a more modern, enveloping look, paint the trim the same green as the walls.
What color bedding goes with green walls? Cream, white, oatmeal and soft linen tones are foolproof. Layer in green pillows or a coverlet to tie it all together.
Gorgeous Green
If you've been on the fence about a green bedroom, consider this your sign. Whether you go all in with a moody color-drenched room or start with a pair of velvet pillows, green has a way of making a space feel calmer, warmer and more you.
