Decorating idea: black backed built-ins

I always say, "when in doubt, go black". . .it's just such a good classic color that adds elegance whenever its used in interiors or fashion for that matter. At the moment, I've got a project I am working on and it needs a little pop in the living room. I suggested to my client that we paint the back of her built ins black to create a pop. I absolutely love the way things pop against black.

Looks pretty chic, right?

How to style a brass etagere

Over the weekend, I got possibly the best news ever. My mom, who is an avid thrifter like me, thought perhaps I may like this gold bookcase. Not knowing that I have been searching for a Milo Baughman for DIA brass etagere pretty much my entire decor career, I was shocked when she found it and ran straight to that thrift store. Get this, it was only $75. I bargained them down to $60. Are you kidding me?

She is just so absolutely gorgeous. I just love her. Now, I don't know what to do with her. I started styling her up with what I currently have no room for, all of my books + a few art pieces. But I really am wanting to create a whole vibe for this space. Something more dramatic. So I wanted to get a little bit of styling inspiration and see what's best for my new entryway nook. Here is what was in this space before...

Now for some styling inspiration.

That was all of the Milo Baughman stylings that I could find. Looks great as bookshelves in the office or even bar carts. I think it could also be super glam in a closet. I'd love to see that. If you are as obsessed with this look as I am, you can get your own here...

Here are a few more brass stylings I'm into...

I love the art behind the cart on the wall. I'm really thinking about keeping my art on display on that wall, and even possibly a mirror or two.
