Celebrating paint with ACE Hardware & Valspar Apricot Froth

I'm a sucker for vintage furniture. Nothing gets me more excited than making something old, new and beautiful again. So, when Valspar asked me to come on board for Ace Hardware’s 31 days of color campaign, I happily jumped at the opportunity. For the entire month of March, Valspar is collaborating with Ace Hardware, to unveil a color each day to inspire us all to bring color into our lives. Today, the color is Valspar’s Apricot Froth  and my assignment was to find something to give some color to.

I got this chair a while back for like $5 at an antique shop. I am absolutely in love with the lines and I have such a beautiful vision for it in black and white. However, with the recent snowfall around here, I haven't had time to shop for fabric or get this vintage chair to the upholstery shop. In the meantime, it’s such an eye sore and I don't have any room in storage to keep it out of sight. So, this is where paint sure does come to my rescue. The original fabric on it is a dark grey color with small apricot flowers in needlepoint. It's actually really cool. So, in under 10 minutes this chair got an entirely new look with a few coats of pretty Apricot Froth paint. I chose Valspar Optimus because it’s durable and self-priming so all it needed was one coat. AND I love the way its adds color to my living room just in time for Spring.

How to create a more fashionable room in just 1 bold move

Whenever I see a room and I just get the feeling that something is missing, I look up. Most people forget the ceiling, but the ceiling is such an underestimated wall space. Left alone, it can be overlooked, but when outfitted properly, it can be the most statement making part of a room. Take for instance this gorgeous marbled wallpapered ceiling. It pulls in the richness in the gold and lavender, while still not overpowering the room. It's rich and dramatic which adds something seriously special to an otherwise plain room. 

Even this room with its extremely soft palate, fairs well from adding a gorgeous marbled paper on the ceiling. The pattern adds dimension and richness yet its still not overpowering. See what I am getting at here? You can add a dramatic wallpaper without killing the vibe of the room. 

Now I am a sucker for a gold ceiling, I believe paint can work wonders too. I have painted several of my clients ceilings with either silver or gold (I love using the Metallics paint collection from Benjamin Moore). It really provides a shine that bounces light around the room like crazy, which again, adds some great dimension.

Now for this clients ceiling it took about 2-3 coats of Benjamin Moore's gold metallic paint. It came out beautifully and gave the space a feeling of grandeur. It's a small living room but with the right paint on the ceiling, the room felt so much bigger and richer.

I really love the attention to detail in this space too. The pink wall with a navy trim looks so chic and pretty. It adds a tailored feel to a room thats fun and whimsical. I also how love how this deep rich red just completely makes a soft pale room look instantly more luxurious. 

Painted ceilings can also take a masculine or feminine space to the next level. Notice how the more glossy ceiling looks deeper and richer while adding a ton of light and the matte blush ceiling makes the ceiling seem high and more demure in light reflection. I personally prefer the gloss or metallic sheen. It just makes the room radiate.
