After a few hours of shopping and scrolling on Pinterest, my creative mind started running and I found some really fun ideas.
First, I knew I wanted to create some fun ghost decor in our small townhome. I thought I could take this vintage brass three globe lamp and turn it into an adorable ghost family, perfect for spooking our guests.
Why DIY your Halloween decor this year?
Store-bought Halloween decor adds up fast, and let's be honest, a lot of it looks the same on every porch on the block. DIYing your decorations means you can get that same spooky-chic look for a fraction of the price, using things you probably already have around the house (hello, old wine bottles and spare cheesecloth).
It also means your home actually feels yours — a little more personal, a little more creative, and a lot more fun to put together with your kids or over a glass of wine on a Sunday afternoon. And since most of these DIYs use neutral pieces like glass jars, candles, and branches, you can easily repurpose the supplies for Thanksgiving or everyday decor once October ends, so nothing goes to waste in a bin in your garage.

01 | FLOATING GHOST DIY.
First, I ordered this cheesecloth to create the ghost silhouette. I cut it into 3 parts for each ghost. I used this lamp but if you don’t have a lamp, you could also use styrofoam balls and a tomato planter cage.
Then, I ordered black velvet felt that I used to cut out the eyes. It sticks right on the cheesecloth and feels super sturdy.

02 | Flying bats on mirror or black butterflies
I also HAD to order the sticky bats to add to the Halloween look for our dining room area. These bats are so affordable and super easy to attach to any wall or mirror.
For a more modern look, I think the black round mirror always looks the best in an entryway or even over a fireplace. I also love the look of a Parisian inspired gold mirror, I feel it gives more of that antique touch.
I also have fallen in love with the black butterflies trend I have been seeing this year. It is so spooky but chic for Halloween decor.

Featured DIY: Mini Skeleton Cauldron Candle
This one is easily one of my favorite Halloween DIYs on this whole list — it looks like something you'd pay $50 for at an overpriced home decor store, but it comes together in under 20 minutes with a candle you probably already have. A tiny skeleton "climbs" out of a glowing cauldron of wax, flanked by glittery black branches and a sparkly spider, for the perfect moody centerpiece on a coffee table, mantle, or Halloween dinner table.
What you'll need:
1 black cauldron-style candle or a plain black bowl + wax melts/pillar candle
1 mini plastic skeleton figure (the kind with bendable arms — dollar store or craft store Halloween bins are perfect for this)
A small scrap of white gauze, cheesecloth, or fabric (for the "wrapped" head detail)
2 small black glittered branch picks
1 mini glitter spider embellishment
A handful of faux pearls or beads (optional, for texture on top of the wax)
Scissors
Steps:
Start with your base. If you're using a pre-made cauldron candle, you're ready to go. If you're making your own, melt wax (or nestle a pillar candle) into a small black bowl or cauldron-shaped container and let it cool until just slightly soft on top — this makes it easier to press the skeleton's arms in place.
Prep your skeleton. Bend the skeleton's arms so they can rest over the rim of the cauldron, as if it's climbing out. Trim the figure at the waist with scissors if it's a full-body skeleton — you only need it from the ribcage up.
Wrap the head. Cut a small square of white gauze or cheesecloth and wrap it around the top of the skull like a little hood or bandage, leaving the face exposed. Secure it with a dab of hot glue in the back.
Position the skeleton. Gently press the skeleton's arms and ribcage into the top edge of the candle wax so it looks like it's propped up against the rim, facing outward. If the wax has already hardened, use a small dot of hot glue on the underside of the arms to secure it in place instead.
Add the branches. Tuck one black glittered branch pick behind each side of the skeleton, angling them outward like little wings or antlers, and secure with a touch of hot glue at the base if needed.
Attach the spider. Glue your mini glitter spider onto the outer edge of the cauldron, as if it's crawling up the side.
Finish with texture. Scatter a few faux pearls or beads on top of the wax next to the skeleton for a little sparkle and dimension.
Light it up. If your candle has functioning wicks, trim them and light for the full glowing effect. If you used a flameless/wax-melt version, tuck in a couple of battery tealights instead for safety.
That's it — a spooky-chic little centerpiece that costs just a few dollars in add-ons if you're starting with a candle you already own.
24 | Mini Halloween Graveyard Planter
Turn a spare planter into a tiny haunted village by layering in mini tombstones, a spooky little stone chapel, a pebble pathway, and a picket fence "cemetery" border, all nestled in dark soil or mulch. Tuck in a few glitter pumpkins, a plastic spider, and a couple of bare black branches for height, and you've got the coziest little Halloween scene that costs next to nothing if you already have a spare planter sitting around. It's the perfect front porch or entryway accent for anyone who loves the tiny-village, "fairy garden" aesthetic but wants it dressed up for October.

Stick a bundle of black paper bat picks into a tall amber or dark glass vase, then let a few "loose" bats fly up the wall behind it, thinning out as they climb toward the stairs. It creates the coolest optical illusion, like the bats are pouring out of the vase and swirling up your staircase or hallway wall.

This is such a fun DIY Halloween bathroom decoration and it’s surprisingly easy to recreate! Start with a large black plastic witch’s cauldron and place it on your bathroom counter. Then add a small decorative skeleton so it looks like your little skeleton is sitting inside the cauldron. You can pose the skeleton with its legs hanging over the edge for that playful, spooky look.
For an extra creepy-cute touch, add a pair of oversized Halloween glasses to the skeleton and top it with a funny Halloween-themed hat or wig.
