How to Decorate for your Zodiac sign

I've just made it back from my time in Miami and after all of the hotel and apartment scouting I did, I am in serious need for a bedroom overhaul. I just want an entirely new space. For some reason, I want more modern in my life and much more green outside of my window.

So, I called on my sweet friend, the Astrofashionista to give me some color inspiration based on my zodiac sign. She decided to write a blog post for all of you Decoristas out there, in case you were wanting to know your go-to style and colors too.

Here are her decorating for your sign tips. . .

Spring is here in the northern hemisphere and so is the opportunity to spruce up your personal space! The first day of spring is the start of a new astrological year with the sun moving into the first sign of the zodiac, Aries. To those of you living south of the equator, happy Libra season and first day of fall!

No matter where you are in the world, now’s the perfect time for you to improve your personal space. And we’re going to tell you how to do so based on your zodiac sign!

ARIES: March 21- April 19 | Symbol – The Ram | Element – Fire | Planetary Ruler – Mars | Color(s) – Red You’re the first fire sign of the zodiac, ruled by action planet Mars. Most of you have a fiery nature so a boring space does not a happy Aries make! Try adding a bold pop of color to your space to keep you visually energized and stimulated. Since you’re always on the go, functional pieces that serve dual purpose will make your life easier.

TAURUS: April 20- May 20 | Symbol – The Bull | Element – Earth | Planetary Ruler – Venus | Color(s) – Green Classic and sophisticated, bulls want and need a comfortable and beautiful space to feel at peace. You’re ruled by love and beauty planet Venus so being surrounded by quality in an environment that allows you to be stylishly lazy is key. The color red may work for Aries but we all know what happens when you waive red in front of a bull! We suggest that you stick with a calming and relaxing color scheme.

GEMINI: May 21- June 20 | Symbol – The Twins | Element – Air | Planetary Ruler – Mercury | Color(s) – Bright Colors Change is apart of Gemini’s nature and that includes your tastes. You could be into one thing one day and over it the next. Because of this it’s important that you have a space that allows for design flexibility. Choose a neutral pallet that allows you to switch between different colors and patterns year round. You also love to communicate so make sure your common living areas are chitchat friendly.

CANCER: June 21- July 22 | Symbol – The Crab | Element – Water | Planetary Ruler – The Moon | Color(s) – White, Silver Your sign rules the home and there’s no place more important to you. If you have a choice of hitting the town or staying home in your jammies to watch a good movie, 9 times out of 10 you’re going with the second option. You put comfort above everything so the room can’t just look good, it has to feel good too. Try layering different fabrics and pillows on your bed for the best snuggle ever.

LEO: July 23 – August 22 | Symbol – The Lion | Element – Fire | Planetary Ruler – The Sun | Color(s) – Orange, Gold The lion is the king of the jungle so your home should feel like a palace. You’re a fire sign so boring is not in your vocabulary. Luxe, shiny fabrics and surfaces with a sense of flair and drama are right up your alley. Your place needs to be as big and bold as your personality, right?

VIRGO: August 23- September 22 | Symbol – The Virgin | Element – Earth | Planetary Ruler – Mercury | Color(s) – Navy Blue, Dark Brown Virgos have a reputation for being perfectionists and neat freaks. Not all of you are, but most of you do have a knack for knowing where everything in your home is. A clean and organized place makes for a more productive Virgo. Like Gemini, you’re ruled by communication planet Mercury. But you’re also an earth sign so being surrounded by natural earth tones helps keep you grounded.

LIBRA: September 23- October 22 | Symbol – The Scales | Element – Air | Planetary Ruler – Venus | Color(s) – Blue, Pink, Pastels Libras are fun and flirty and this should be reflected in their personal space. Like Taurus, Libra is ruled by love and beauty planet Venus so high quality pieces with a romantic flair keep this air sign feeling inspired. Libra is the sign of balance and partnership so it’s important to include things in doubles – nightstands, lamps, and pillows. This feng shui tip can help your current relationship or help call in the partner you’re looking for!

SCORPIO: October 23- November 21 | Symbol – The Scorpion | Element – Water | Planetary Ruler – Pluto | Color(s) – Black, Burgundy Scorpios are known for being sexy and mysterious. A seductive room with deep, dark colors is right up this sign’s alley. Pluto is Scorpio’s ruler and is the planet of power and transformation. A Scorpio’s lair may feel like another world or time period. Whoever walks in will leave feeling like a new person

SAGITTARIUS: November 22- December 21 | Symbol – The Archer | Element – Fire | Planetary Ruler – Jupiter | Color(s) – Royal Blue, Purple Sagittarius is the sign of travel so it’s important that this sign feels like they are away even when at home. This can mean living in a swanky penthouse with killer views or simply incorporating one of kind pieces that you’ve collected while traveling. If any sign can pull off mixing and matching for an eclectic look, it’s you!

CAPRICORN: December 22 – January 19 | Symbol – The Goat | Element – Earth | Planetary Ruler – Saturn | Color(s) – Gray, Dark Green Earth sign Capricorn is known for being ambitious and traditional. Everything in a Capricorn’s space should look and feel like a million bucks. Classic pieces with clean lines ensure that they keep or increase their value over the years. Neutral and muted colors help keep this workaholic sign feeling calm cool and collected when at home.

AQUARIUS: January 20- February 18 | Symbol – The Water Bearer | Element – Air | Planetary Ruler – Uranus | Color(s) – Turquoise Aquarius is often mistaken for a water sign and understandably so. This sign is represented by the water bearer but is actually an air sign. Both of these elements play an important part in this sign’s makeup and should be incorporated into their space with hues of blue, white and cream. Aquarians are great conversationalists so their space should be set up to encourage some hearty debates.

PISCES: February 19- March 20 | Symbol – The Fishes | Element – Water | Planetary Ruler – Neptune | Color(s) – Sea Green, Violet As the last sign of the zodiac, Pisces takes on elements of all 11 signs that come before it and this can be expressed through an eclectic design style. This Neptune ruled sign is very creative and self-expression is important.

Design Inspiration: The blacker the better

I often find myself telling people, if I could build myself a new house right now it would be black on black on black. Just layers of black. Ugh. I just love black. I was trying to illustrate this look to one of my clients but its a tough sell. That is until I found this throwback. A home designed by Houston designer Cathy Echols, yay Texas!

This is a perfect visual of just how I would love to live in a deeply rich, dark black home with glamorous accents and a LOT of natural light of course. The thing about black is that any other color just pops so brightly right off of it.

I think I would have gone with a chandelier with a little more of a grand scale and Parisian flair but hey, thats just me. I love the way the art and blooms just pop and add such a delicious richness. How good does the wood look against black too. It really brings out all of the flaws and looks so good and rich. I love.

We all know how much I love to decorate with crystals and stones so this large pink number is totally bomb and right up my alley.

I have always dreamed of having a canopy bed. I had one when I was a little girl and have always wanted one since. It's so Barbie's mansion to me. Love. I also love the mix of white bedding, black quilt and beige canopy fabric. Such a chic color mix.

Last but not least her outfit here is killer. What a dame. I also love the art she is standing in front of. Also, orchids are always my favorite flower for home decorating. This is total perfection.
