One of the lessons I have learned over and over in my years of learning the ins and outs of running an interiors business is that continually gaining more clarity on your personal brand is essential. In working with my clients in The House of Bliss, we are learning to dive deep and discover how to find your own unique style.

I've learned that answers always come through action. We can sit around and wait for the perfect answer to come but it is typically when we begin taking action without clarity, that the answers seem to appear. It was 8 months into blogging, that the name of the blog you read now, 'the decorista' came. It was only after I began working as a designer, that I finally was able to nail down what I would charge for my services. When I was in the early stages of my design business, it took me a while to figure out how exactly to describe my style. During interviews and speaking gigs, I would constantly get the question. . . "so, how would you define your style?". For me, it was difficult because I have a strong affinity for creating interiors based on a theme, not really my personal design style.

While I always knew I leaned towards vibrant, beautiful and glamorous interiors, I felt that was a little too generic and didn't accurately describe my personal aesthetic. It wasn't until I made some bold design choices for clients that began to really set the tone for my career. One in particular stood out to me because after I made this move, I was always recognized for it.

That move was painting a gold ceiling.

From that point on, I would frequently get asked questions like 'what paint did I use? what made me want to go with gold? how does it affect the rooms lighting? Etc. What I noticed was how many people would specifically come to me when asking questions about painting a ceiling. I had no idea it would be such a strategic move. It was almost like it was a signature of mine for my design business. I got so many clients from that move. I learned that in order to stand out, you must do something different.

Not that I was the only one painting ceilings, but at the time it was rare to see a gold ceiling in an apartment. Since that day, I have painted metallic ceilings in almost every clients home and they fall absolutely in love with the results.

Today I wanted to share just a few images to inspire and remind you to not be afraid of painting the ceiling. Consider your ceiling the fifth wall. It deserves just as much attention as the other four.

As much as I love color on the ceiling, metallic on the ceiling bounces light around and creates beautiful movement around the room. Therefore creating serious glamour.
