Currently crushing on: Marianna Hewitt's LA home style

Almost exactly a year ago I was in Ravello, Italy for a friends wedding. Aside from it being one of the absolute best trips of my life, I met the most amazing and interesting people. One of them being fashion blogger of Life with Me, Marianna Hewitt. The second I followed her on instagram, I knew I loved her aesthetic. Lots of clean shots and lots of black and white. After following her for a while, I started crushing on her home vibe. 

Typically, I opt for a little more panache and luxury when it comes to my personal space but lately, I am really loving the look of clean lines and a soft palette. What I especially love is the floor to ceiling windows, there is nothing more luxe than having a beautiful view with a lot of natural light flooding through your home. It just oozes good vibes and energy. 

I know that a lot of designers typically don't like to use sectionals because of whatever reason but I love them. They are functional, comfortable, and to me work perfectly with a modern chic space. This linen Edlyn sectional is probably the most beautiful one I have seen in a long time. Right now this decker sectional from CB2 is killing the game. The depth of the seat is awesome for lounging and even falling asleep. 

There are shots of two different coffee tables and I can't decide which one I love best. I will tell you this, I am a HUGE fan of round coffee tables with sectionals, like this glam one she has. I just think it feels best with no edges so the flow is better. That could totally be just me but its how I see it. 

I've never really been a huge fan of art walls but I adore how she styled hers with this fab marble + metallic wall shelf from CB2. It adds a little something different to the look. Underneath the art wall, you see those fur + gold stools that I have been eyeing. I think they are just adorable. 

Now here is where I really am in love. . .the black. I really love the modern loft look with this staircase. It's absolutely so chic and the two black and glass shelves add to the modern vibe in the best way. I think you can get those at IKEA, I have seen a lot of people spray them gold but they look great in black here and are totally affordable. 

In any modern space, lighting is key. I love the metal arch lamps, they give some height to the whole room. In an effort to keep the loft style space light and airy, this acrylic coffee table is perfect! Especially when you are working from your laptop with a chic marble case, it just looks so chic. The blush pink pillows from West Elm are literally stunning and are the perfect pop of the femme color. I love the mongolian lamb pillows too! Top it off with a nice spotted pillow for just a hint of pattern. These fur stools are a must have, super fun and chic. What modern glam girl doesn't have a pair of crystal bookends? I've also had my eye on this copper candleholder. Now, here is the real stunner, this Neom Organic white and gold candle burns and creates a nourishing oil for your skin.

Elements of decor: why clear works

In my business, I sometimes underestimate my clients fears. The other day, I found myself having to explain to a client why putting in a clear coffee table in the living room will make the room feel lighter and brighter. Fears about it being tacky or too 80's seemed to be the major underlying concern. Part of my job as a designer is explaining the WHY behind every detail. So I thought I'd share my feelings about this on the blog too. 

I absolutely love lucite or anything acrylic for the home. Aside from anything trendy or stylish, it helps to make a space not feel too weighed down. It also allows anything held inside to be displayed fabulously while looking put together and organized. Think glass kitchen cabinets and the beautiful displays of dishes on the inside. You will rarely turn the pages of a design magazine and not see some kind of lucite piece that absolutely steals the shows. It makes a home look effortlessly chic. You can absolutely do it wrong, but here are some ways to get the look right.

 COFFEE TABLES. I looooooove lucite coffee tables or even clear glass coffee tables. I love the way it makes a living room look polished and pretty. Light reflects off so well and bounces around the room giving it a nice flow of energy. Take for example this room below, its a tight space with plenty of seating and storage. Those pieces are large and bulky which make for a super cozy feel and the clear coffee table serves as a highly functional piece but helps the room not to feel overwhelming. 

CONSOLE TABLES. When you are working with an entryway that has limited space or even a sofa or vanity table a lucite piece makes such a fabulous little addition. It gives you a functional table without the bulk or visual space. Like in the above photo this waterfall console lets the wallpaper have its full power while still giving you a perfectly fab table.

I adore this bedside vanity desk area from the vault files. Notice how against the black wall, the clear acrylic console table allows the color to shine through and doesn't distract from the chic color palette. 

SIDE TABLES. Okay so, sometimes you will find yourself in a room where there may not be much space for a side table. That doesn't mean you shouldn't put anything there. A clear table can be worked in that area because it doesn't have to fit perfectly to look good. I also love the way stacks of books and magazines work on this type of table. As long as you display everything beautifully, it can absolutely look like an artistic little vignette. 

BEAUTY STORAGE. I've seen these beautiful displays of makeup look so chic in an acrylic box. It frees up your bathroom countertop space while still keeping everything in close reach. Plus, they really make fantastic instagram photos.
