How to Make Your Energy Expensive: 7 Ways to Practice the Joy of Missing Out {podcast ep. 395}

ashlina kaposta August 10, 2026

Lately, I’ve been spending more time in solitude, romanticising my daily pleasures so that I can more clearly from God. As a woman who knows just how important it is to be living in alignment with your purpose, I was guided to talk a bit about what that actually looks like for the modern day woman.

Listen to the full podcast episode here:

For years, culture told us that being "in demand" meant saying yes to everything. Answering every text immediately. Showing up to every event. Chasing every opportunity before someone else could take it. Staying visible, available, and in the loop — because missing out felt like losing.

But somewhere along the way, a lot of us got tired. Not tired from doing too little — tired from doing too much of what never actually mattered to us in the first place.

That's where this idea comes in: making your energy expensive.

Expensive energy doesn't mean you're unavailable, cold, or hard to reach. It means you've stopped handing yourself out simply because something — or someone — is available to you. It means your time, attention, and presence have a price, and that price is discernment.

This is the foundation of JOMO: the Joy of Missing Out.

FOMO vs. JOMO: A Complete Mindset Shift

For most of our lives, we've been fluent in one language: FOMO, the fear of missing out. It sounds like:

  • What if I miss something?

  • What if everyone else is having more fun, making more money, moving faster than me?

  • What if I say no and the opportunity never comes back around?

FOMO keeps you reactive. It keeps you scrolling, comparing, saying yes before you've even checked in with yourself. It's exhausting because it's built on scarcity — the belief that there isn't enough opportunity, enough time, enough love, enough abundance to go around, so you'd better grab everything you can, just in case.

JOMO asks a completely different question:

  • What if I don't need everything?

That single reframe changes everything. JOMO isn't about isolation or withdrawing from life. It's not about missing out on purpose to prove a point. It's about recognizing that your energy is finite, valuable, and worthy of protection — and that saying no to the wrong things is what makes room for the right ones.

When you stop giving your energy away simply because it's requested, expected, or convenient for someone else, your energy becomes expensive. Not unattainable. Not guarded out of fear. Expensive in the way anything valuable is expensive — because it's limited, intentional, and reserved for what actually deserves it. It’s definitely a feminine energy mindset practice.

Here's why this matters more right now than it ever has before.

We are living in the most connected, most "available" era in human history. Every notification, every open tab, every group chat is a small request for a piece of you. Individually, none of them seem like much. Collectively, they add up to a life spent responding instead of choosing — reacting to what's in front of you instead of building the thing you actually want.

Expensive energy is the correction. It's not a trend, and it's not a phase of coldness before you go back to old habits. It's a permanent recalibration of how you decide what deserves you.

7 WAYS TO PROTECT YOUR ENERGY

1. Stop Saying Yes Out of Fear

Most of the yeses we regret weren't really yeses at all. They were fear wearing the costume of opportunity.

Underneath a fear-based yes, you'll usually find one of these:

  • Fear of missing an opportunity that might not come again

  • Fear of being left out of something everyone else is part of

  • Fear of falling behind people you're quietly comparing yourself to

  • Fear that if you don't take it, someone else will get what you secretly wanted

None of these are really about the opportunity itself. They're about a story running underneath it — a story that says if you don't grab this right now, you'll lose your place in line for your own life.

The problem is that a fear-based yes rarely feels good even when it works out. You get the job, the invite, the relationship, the deal — and instead of relief, you feel depleted. That's the tell. A genuine yes energizes you, even when it's hard. A fear-based yes just quiets the anxiety for a moment before the resentment sets in.

Practice: Before you say yes to anything, pause and ask yourself:

Would I still want this if nobody else knew I was doing it?

Strip away the audience. Strip away the fear of being left out. Strip away the comparison. If what's left is still a genuine want, that's a real yes. If what's left is silence, or relief at the idea of not doing it, that's your answer too.

This single question filters out an enormous amount of noise. It won't make every decision easy, but it will make most of them honest.

2. Stop Chasing What Doesn't Feel Aligned

Not everything that looks good is good for you. This is one of the hardest lessons to actually live by, because so much of what we chase is objectively impressive.

It could be:

  • The opportunity that looks incredible on paper but drains you every time you think about it

  • The relationship that photographs well but leaves you smaller in real life

  • The trend everyone's doing that has nothing to do with who you actually are

  • The business strategy that's working for someone else but fights against your natural rhythm

  • The lifestyle that looks aspirational from the outside but would cost you your peace on the inside

Alignment doesn't always look exciting from the outside. Sometimes the aligned choice is the quiet one, the slower one, the one that doesn't get any applause. And misalignment doesn't always look bad — sometimes it looks like the best offer you've ever received, timed perfectly to test whether you actually trust yourself.

Practice: Learn to tell the difference between "I want this" and "I think I should want this."

"I should want this" is usually inherited — from culture, from comparison, from an old version of you that needed external proof of worth. "I want this" comes from somewhere quieter and more stable. It doesn't need to be justified to anyone.

This is where intuitive living becomes essential. Intuition doesn't shout. It doesn't compete with fear, hype, or urgency — which means if you're only listening to the loudest voice in the room, you'll miss it every time. Slowing down enough to hear the difference is, in itself, an act of making your energy expensive.

3. Protect Your Attention

Your attention is one of the most valuable forms of currency you have — arguably more valuable than your money, because you can always make more money, but you cannot get back the hours, days, and years you spend absorbed in things that don't matter.

And yet most of us spend our attention the way we'd never spend our money: carelessly, automatically, without ever checking the receipt.

Making your energy expensive means becoming ruthless — kindly ruthless — about where your attention goes.

  • Stop consuming everything just because it's in front of you.

  • Stop checking everyone's lives like it's your job to stay updated on people who don't actually add to yours.

  • Stop comparing timelines, as if there's one universal schedule everyone is supposed to be following.

  • Stop letting other people's priorities silently become your own, just because they were louder about theirs.

Every time you open an app, agree to a conversation, or let your mind circle back to something that doesn't serve you, you're making a withdrawal. Multiply that by a day, a week, a year, and it's not hard to see why so many capable, intelligent women feel like they have nothing left by the end of the day — not because they aren't doing enough, but because their attention has been leaking out in a hundred directions they never consciously chose.

Practice: Be intentional about what you allow into your mental and emotional space. Before you consume something, ask what it's costing you, not just what it's offering you.

Your attention is an investment. Spend it accordingly.

4. Let Yourself Be Unavailable

Somewhere along the way, many of us absorbed the belief that being a good, kind, reliable person means being infinitely accessible. That any hesitation, delay, or boundary is a character flaw.

It isn't. You don't have to be accessible to everyone, all the time — and the people who genuinely respect you were never asking you to be.

Unavailability, practiced with grace, looks like:

  • Not answering immediately, just because you technically could

  • Not attending everything you're invited to, even things that would be "fine"

  • Not explaining every no in painstaking detail, as if your boundary needs a legal defense

  • Not participating in every conversation, debate, or group chat simply because you were included

The instinct to over-explain a no usually comes from the same fear that drives a fear-based yes — the fear that if you don't justify yourself, you'll be seen as difficult, cold, or ungrateful. But a boundary that requires a full explanation to be valid isn't really a boundary. It's a negotiation.

Practice: Create more space between the invitation and your answer. You don't owe anyone an instant response. A pause is not rudeness — it's respect for yourself.

You are allowed to pause. You are allowed to sit with a request before you decide what it deserves from you.

5. Stop Performing Your Life

This might be the practice that hits closest to home, because it's the one most quietly reinforced by the world we live in.

So much of modern life has become a performance of a life, rather than the actual living of one. And the pressure isn't always to lie — it's to constantly prove, in real time, that you're:

  • Successful

  • Happy

  • Busy

  • Desirable

  • Interesting

  • Productive

  • Living your best life

When you're performing, even good moments get filtered through the question: how will this look? That question quietly hijacks decisions that should be yours alone. You don't take the trip because you want the trip — you take it because you want to be seen taking it. You don't pursue the relationship because it feels right — you pursue it because it looks right.

Expensive energy doesn't perform, because performance is, by definition, giving your energy to an audience rather than reserving it for yourself.

Practice: Do things because you love them — not because they photograph well or validate your identity. Ask yourself honestly, for the things you're currently chasing: would I still want this if I could never post about it, mention it, or tell anyone?

A beautiful life doesn't need an audience. The version of your life that's actually worth living is usually the one nobody sees the best parts of — because you were too present living them to document them.

6. Trust That There Is Enough

Underneath almost every fear-based yes, every chase, every bit of performed success, there's a single quiet belief driving the whole thing: there isn't enough, so I have to grab what I can, while I can.

Scarcity has a voice, and it's convincing. It says:

"I have to grab this now. If I don't, it's gone."

Trust says something different:

"What's meant for me will not require me to abandon myself."

This is a deeply spiritual shift as much as a practical one. You don't need every opportunity that crosses your path. You don't need to compete with every other woman for a seat that was never yours to fight for. You don't need to chase every open door just because it happened to be open.

Some doors are open because they're meant for you. Others are open simply because they were left unlocked — and walking through them anyway, out of fear that this is your only shot, is how so many of us end up somewhere that was never actually ours.

Trust doesn't mean passivity. It doesn't mean sitting back and hoping things land in your lap. It means releasing the frantic energy of now or never, and replacing it with the steadier energy of right things, right timing.

Practice: When something doesn't feel right, let it pass without assuming you've missed your chance. What's actually meant for you was never going to require you to override your own knowing to get it.

7. Choose Your Life

Everything before this practice has been about subtraction — saying no, protecting attention, releasing fear, letting go of performance. This last one is where it all comes together, because the ultimate goal of JOMO was never really about missing out at all.

It's about choosing in.

Choosing:

  • Your priorities

  • Your values

  • Your season

  • Your relationships

  • Your work

  • Your home

  • Your peace

  • Your vision

Every no you practice in the six steps before this one exists to protect your capacity to say a full, wholehearted yes to the life that's actually yours. JOMO isn't the art of missing out on life. It's the art of stopping the habit of missing your own life because you were too busy watching, comparing, and reacting to everyone else's.

Practice: Ask yourself —

What would I choose if I stopped worrying about what everyone else was choosing?

Sit with that question honestly, without immediately jumping to justify or explain the answer to anyone. Because the goal was never to miss out on life. The goal is to stop missing your own life because you're so busy watching everyone else live theirs.

The Expensive Energy Checklist

Save this. Screenshot it. Keep it somewhere you'll actually see it before your next big (or small) decision.

Before you say yes, ask:

  • ☐ Do I actually want this?

  • ☐ Am I choosing this from desire or fear?

  • ☐ Does this support the life I'm building?

  • ☐ Does this require me to abandon myself?

  • ☐ Would I choose this if nobody else knew about it?

If it isn't a hell yes, you're allowed to let it pass.

Frequently Asked Questions About JOMO and Expensive Energy

What does "making your energy expensive" actually mean?

It means you no longer give your time, attention, and presence to people or opportunities simply because they're available to you. Instead, you choose what gets access to you based on alignment, not fear, urgency, or obligation. It's not about becoming unavailable — it's about becoming intentional.

Is JOMO the opposite of FOMO?

Yes, in the sense that FOMO is driven by fear and scarcity — the worry that you'll lose out if you don't say yes to everything — while JOMO is driven by trust and sufficiency, the belief that you don't need everything in order to be okay. But JOMO isn't simply "doing nothing." It's choosing what you actually want, on purpose, instead of reacting to what's in front of you.

Doesn't practicing JOMO mean missing real opportunities?

Not the ones meant for you. The practice isn't about rejecting everything — it's about slowing down enough to tell the difference between a genuine opportunity and a fear-based impulse. Opportunities that are truly aligned with your path tend not to require you to abandon your peace, values, or intuition to take them.

How do I stop feeling guilty about saying no?

Guilt around saying no is often inherited from a belief that your worth is tied to your availability. Practicing small, low-stakes "no's" builds the muscle. Over time, you'll notice that the people who matter respect your boundaries, and the discomfort of disappointing others gets easier to sit with than the exhaustion of constantly saying yes.

How is this different from just being lazy or checked out?

JOMO is not about disengaging from life — it's about engaging more deeply with less. A person practicing expensive energy is often more present, more focused, and more fulfilled in the things they do choose, precisely because they aren't spread across a hundred obligations that never mattered to them.

Can I practice this and still be ambitious?

Absolutely. Expensive energy isn't anti-ambition — it's anti-scattered. Protecting your attention and choosing aligned opportunities over every available one actually creates more capacity to pursue big goals, because you're not depleting yourself on things that don't move you closer to the life you want.

Where do I start if this feels overwhelming?

Start with the Expensive Energy Checklist above and apply it to just one decision this week — something small, like an invitation or a request on your time. Notice how it feels to pause before answering. That single pause is the entire practice in miniature.

How long does it take to actually feel the shift?

Most people notice a difference within a few weeks of consistent practice — not because the outer circumstances change immediately, but because the internal relationship with decision-making changes first. You start to feel steadier before you say yes, and lighter after you say no. The outer results — more aligned relationships, more focused work, more genuine rest — tend to follow once the internal pattern is established.

What if the people around me don't understand this shift?

Not everyone will, and that's expected. People who benefited from your unlimited availability may initially push back when you start protecting your energy. This isn't a sign you're doing it wrong — it's often a sign you're doing it right. The relationships and opportunities that are actually meant for this season of your life will adjust and often deepen. The ones that only worked because you never said no were likely costing you more than you realized.

Making Your Energy Expensive Isn't About Becoming Cold

It's easy to hear a practice like this and assume it means becoming distant, unavailable, or hard to reach. It doesn't.

Making your energy expensive isn't about becoming cold, unavailable, or difficult to access. It's about becoming a woman who knows her energy has value.

You stop giving your attention to everything. You stop saying yes to everything. You stop chasing everything. You stop comparing yourself to everyone.

And in the space that opens up, you start becoming deeply intentional about what gets your time, your attention, your presence, and your heart.

Because maybe you're not missing out.

Maybe you're finally choosing your life.

The Hot Girl's Guide to the Lion's Gate Portal: Everything You Need to Know

ashlina kaposta August 8, 2026

If your feed has been flooded with "8/8" countdowns, candle rituals, and captions about "downloading your highest timeline," you're not imagining it — the Lion's Gate Portal is here, and it's one of the most talked-about cosmic events of the year.

So what actually is it? Is it real astronomy, spiritual folklore, or a little bit of both? And more importantly — how do you actually use this energy instead of just scrolling past it?

Consider this your complete, no-fluff girl's guide to the Lion's Gate Portal: what it means, when it happens, the astrology and numerology behind it, and how to decorate your space, dress, journal, and manifest in alignment with this powerful window. Grab your journal, light a candle, and let's dive in.

What Is the Lion's Gate Portal?

The Lion's Gate Portal is a modern spiritual observance built around the astronomical alignment of the Sun, Earth, and the star Sirius. It's a modern spiritual tradition tied to the bright star Sirius and the number 8/8, occurring while the Sun moves through Leo season. The tradition traces back to the helical rising of Sirius as observed in Ancient Egypt — the moment the star first became visible above the eastern horizon just before sunrise.

Sirius, sometimes called the "Dog Star," is the brightest star in our night sky besides the Sun, and it has long been associated with courage, illumination, and luck across ancient traditions. The astronomy behind it is real — Sirius begins rising near the Sun in late summer — but the idea of a "portal" of amplified spiritual energy is a matter of belief and ritual rather than science. That distinction matters: you don't need to believe in cosmic energy beams to get real value out of this window. Think of it less like a magic switch flipping on in the sky, and more like a beautifully timed permission slip — a seasonal marker that gives you a reason to pause, reflect, and get intentional about your life.

In modern spiritual and astrology circles, the portal has come to represent something much bigger than its ancient origins. Many practitioners view it as a time for manifestation, self-reflection, spiritual growth, and setting intentions for the future. It's become a seasonal ritual moment, not unlike New Year's Eve or the Spring Equinox — a chance to hit reset and consciously choose what you're calling in for the months ahead.

When Is the Lion's Gate Portal in 2026?

Here's where it gets a little confusing online, because you'll see slightly different date ranges depending on who you ask. Here's the breakdown:

  • The window: The portal is generally considered to open between July 28 and August 12, peaking on August 8, when the Sun, Earth, Sirius, and Orion's Belt come into alignment.

  • The peak: While the portal spans roughly two weeks, it's officially considered "activated" every year on August 8.

  • The close: In 2026, the portal is commonly observed from late July through August 12, with the energetic peak celebrated on 8/8.

This year carries a little extra astrological flavor, too. The 2026 portal opened on the heels of the Full Moon in Aquarius at the end of July, and on 8/8 the Moon sits in a Waning Crescent phase in Gemini — just days before a New Moon in Leo. Adding even more weight to this year's window, a Solar Eclipse in Leo lands on August 12, right as the portal closes, amplifying its themes of transformation and new beginnings.

Mark your calendar for August 8th, but don't feel like you missed the boat if you're reading this any day between late July and mid-August. The energy is available to you the entire window — 8/8 is just the main character moment.

The Spiritual & Astrological Meaning Behind It

Leo Season Energy

The Lion's Gate Portal happens smack in the middle of Leo season, and that's not a coincidence — it's the whole point. Leo is the sign associated with the heart, authenticity, creative self-actualization, self-expression, leadership, and creative power. Leo is ruled by the Sun itself, which is why this transit feels less like a whisper and more like a spotlight. It's asking you to be seen — in your work, your relationships, your creative gifts, and your own life.

Where a quieter, more introspective transit might ask you to retreat and process, Lion's Gate wants you glowing. It's less "sit with your shadow in the dark" and more "step into the light and own who you are." This is a beautiful, girl's-guide-coded distinction — it's giving confidence, radiance, and main-character energy, not brooding.

The Power of Sirius

Sirius has been considered a spiritually significant star across countless ancient cultures, often linked to higher wisdom, divine timing, and illumination beyond what we can consciously access. Astrologically, Sirius is associated with amplifying whatever it touches — so when it aligns with the Sun during Leo season, the result is a heightened version of Leo's natural gifts: courage, radiance, and creative power turned all the way up.

The Numerology of 8/8

You can't talk about this portal without talking about the number 8. In numerology, eight is considered a powerful number that evokes transformation and abundance, and when turned on its side, it becomes the infinity symbol — representing endless flow and expansion. On August 8th, you get two 8s stacked together (8/8), which practitioners see as a doubling of that abundant, transformational energy. Some traditions go even further and treat 2026 as a "triple 8" year depending on how you calculate the date numerologically, which is part of why you're seeing so much buzz about this one specifically.

The number 8 shows up as the symbol for balance between the material and the spiritual — money, career, recognition, and power on one side; growth, faith, and inner truth on the other. That's why Lion's Gate rituals so often blend "vision board energy" (money, career, visibility) with "soul work energy" (journaling, meditation, releasing what's no longer serving you).

Decorating for the Lion's Gate Portal: Create a Radiant Space

Just like Venus retrograde or a Venus sign change calls for shifting your space, the Lion's Gate Portal calls for a home that feels warm, radiant, and abundant — a reflection of Leo's golden, sun-drenched energy.

1. Lean Into Gold, Amber, and Warm Tones

  • Gold accents are the ultimate Lion's Gate color — mirrors, candleholders, picture frames, or even a gold pillar candle on your altar space instantly shift the room's energy.

  • Amber, honey, and warm orange tones in a throw blanket or a vase of dried florals evoke that late-summer sun without feeling overdone.

  • Deep, rich yellow — think marigold, not pastel — channels Leo's confidence and warmth.

2. Bring In Sun and Lion Symbolism

  • A sun-shaped mirror or wall hanging is an easy, non-cheesy way to nod to this transit.

  • Lion motifs (a small brass lion statue, lion print artwork, or even lion-embossed candles) are having a real moment right now for a reason.

  • Fresh sunflowers or any golden-hued blooms on your kitchen table instantly make a space feel aligned.

3. Set Up a Mini Manifestation Altar

  • Clear a small corner — a shelf, nightstand, or windowsill works perfectly.

  • Add a gold or white candle, your journal, a few citrine or tiger's eye crystals (more on that below), and a written list of your 8/8 intentions.

  • Light your candle each morning of the portal window while you set your intention for the day.

4. Scent the Space for Confidence and Warmth

  • Citrus, amber, sandalwood, and frankincense are ideal Lion's Gate scents — think warm, grounding, and a little regal.

  • A single sun-themed candle burning during your journaling or meditation practice helps anchor the ritual.

Dressing for the Lion's Gate Portal: Radiant, Bold, Golden

Your Lion's Gate wardrobe should feel like you're dressing for your own spotlight moment — confident, warm, and a little glamorous.

1. Wear Gold and Warm Metallics

Gold jewelry, a metallic top, or even gold eyeshadow instantly channels this energy. This is the one time of year where "more sparkle" is basically the assignment.

2. Embrace Leo's Signature Colors

  • Sun-kissed orange, marigold, and rich yellow are classic Leo colors that feel celebratory without trying too hard.

  • Deep red and burgundy add warmth and a regal touch — think "lion's mane," not "fire engine."

  • Animal print — a leopard blouse, a tortoiseshell hair clip, or even a subtle print manicure — is a fun, low-effort nod to Leo symbolism.

3. Prioritize Statement, Not Subtlety

Leo season isn't about blending in. A bold blazer, a statement earring, or a confident red lip all say "I'm here, I'm radiant, and I'm not shrinking." Let your outfit be the version of you that you're stepping into.

4. Beauty Looks for the Portal

  • Bronzy, sun-kissed makeup with a warm gold shimmer on the lids.

  • Voluminous, "lion's mane" waves or a big blowout — literally channel the lion energy through your hair.

  • A gold or citrine ring worn intentionally during the portal window as a subtle daily reminder of your intentions.

How to Manifest During the Lion's Gate Portal

This is the heart of the whole practice — and where the real magic (or at least, the real intentionality) happens.

1. Get Radically Clear on What You Want

Leo energy doesn't do vague. This is the moment to get specific about your desires instead of manifesting from a place of "I don't know, just something good."

lions gate portal 8/8

Journal Prompts for 8/8:

  • What version of myself have I been afraid to fully step into?

  • Where in my life am I playing small, and what would it look like to take up more space?

  • What do I want to be recognized, celebrated, or seen for in the next year?

  • What am I ready to release so I have room for something bigger?

2. Write an 8/8 Intention List

Many practitioners specifically write 8 intentions on August 8th — one for each area of life you want to see growth in (career, love, money, health, creativity, home, spirituality, relationships). Fold the paper and place it somewhere meaningful — under your pillow, in your journal, or on your mini altar — and revisit it during the next Lion's Gate.

3. Try a Candle Ritual

Light a gold or white candle and speak your intentions out loud before you write them down. As the candle burns, visualize yourself already living your desired outcome — not hoping for it, embodying it.

4. Move Your Body to Anchor the Energy

Leo is a fire sign, and fire signs manifest through movement. Dance, go for a sunrise walk, do a workout that makes you feel strong and radiant — physically embodying confidence helps signal to your nervous system (and the universe) that you're ready to receive.

5. Work With Lion's Gate Crystals

  • Citrine — abundance, confidence, and manifestation

  • Tiger's Eye — courage, personal power, and protection

  • Pyrite — prosperity and drive

  • Sunstone — joy, leadership, and warmth

  • Clear Quartz — amplifies intention (perfect to pair with any of the above)

Hold your chosen crystal while journaling, or place it directly on your written intentions overnight.

6. Affirmations for the Lion's Gate Portal

  • "I am worthy of being fully seen."

  • "I radiate confidence, abundance, and joy."

  • "I release what no longer serves my highest timeline."

  • "My light does not need to dim for others to shine."

  • "I am aligned with my most abundant, radiant self."

What NOT to Do During the Lion's Gate Portal

Just as important as what you do embrace is what to gently set down during this window:

  • Don't manifest from lack or fear. Leo energy amplifies whatever frequency you're in — so approach this from abundance, not scarcity.

  • Don't shrink yourself to keep the peace. This isn't the window for playing small or staying quiet to avoid discomfort.

  • Don't skip the reflection part. It's tempting to jump straight to vision boards, but the release and reflection work is what actually makes room for the new.

  • Don't rush your ritual. You don't need to overhaul your entire life in one candle-lit evening. Small, sincere intentions go further than a rushed checklist.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Lion's Gate Portal

What exactly is the Lion's Gate Portal?

It's a modern spiritual tradition tied to the alignment of the Sun, Earth, and the star Sirius during Leo season, centered around the symbolic date of August 8th. It's viewed by many as a powerful window for manifestation, reflection, and personal transformation.

When does the Lion's Gate Portal happen in 2026?

The 2026 portal runs from late July through August 12, with its energetic peak on August 8 (8/8). You can work with the energy of this window at any point during that time, not just on the exact peak date.

Why is August 8th considered so special?

Two reasons: the astronomy and the numerology. Astronomically, the Sun, Earth, Sirius, and Orion's Belt reach a close alignment around this date. Numerologically, 8 is associated with abundance and transformation, and its shape mirrors the infinity symbol — so 8/8 is seen as a doubled, amplified version of that energy.

Do I need to do a ritual exactly at 8:08 AM or PM?

Not at all. While 8:08 adds a fun layer of symbolism, your clarity, sincerity, and follow-through matter far more than the exact minute you begin your ritual. If you can't carve out time on August 8th itself, any day within the portal window works beautifully.

Is the Lion's Gate Portal based on real astronomy?

Partly. Sirius genuinely does rise near the Sun in late summer, so the astronomical piece is real — but the idea of an energetic "portal" opening is a matter of spiritual belief and tradition, not a scientifically measurable phenomenon. You can absolutely enjoy and benefit from the ritual and reflection aspect regardless of where you land on the science-versus-spirituality question.

What should I manifest during the Lion's Gate Portal?

Anything you want to see grow in confidence, visibility, or abundance — a career move, a creative project, a relationship shift, financial growth, or simply stepping into a more radiant, authentic version of yourself. Leo energy loves boldness, so don't be afraid to think big.

Do I need crystals or candles to participate?

No — while crystals, candles, and altars are lovely tools that help you focus your intention, the real "work" of the Lion's Gate Portal is the reflection and intention-setting itself. A journal and a quiet ten minutes are all you truly need.

How is Lion's Gate different from a New Moon or Full Moon ritual?

Moon rituals tend to follow a monthly rhythm tied to release (Full Moon) and new beginnings (New Moon). The Lion's Gate Portal is an annual event tied specifically to Leo season and the Sirius-Sun alignment, making it feel bigger, rarer, and more thematically tied to confidence, visibility, and personal power rather than the emotional ebb and flow of the lunar cycle.

Can I still do a Lion's Gate ritual if I missed August 8th?

Absolutely. The full window runs from late July through August 12, so there's plenty of time to sit down with your journal and set your intentions even if the exact peak date has passed.

Is this year's Lion's Gate Portal different from other years?

Yes, a little. 2026's portal is closing out right alongside a Solar Eclipse in Leo on August 12, which many astrologers believe amplifies the transformation and new-beginning themes of the entire window even further.

Want Support Going Deeper Than a Journal Prompt?

If this portal is stirring up something bigger than a candle ritual can hold — if you're feeling the "is this it?" question more than usual — that's worth paying attention to. Lion's Gate has a way of surfacing exactly where you've drifted from your purpose, and a journal alone can only take you so far.

That's the work I do inside The Alignment Audit — a 1:1 purpose and clarity session that combines an astrology-informed birth chart reading with real embodiment work, so the clarity you get during a window like this actually sticks instead of fading by September. You leave with a documented Alignment Roadmap and real next steps, not just another insight to sit with. If this Leo season has you ready to stop performing and start living aligned, it's worth a look.

Step Into Your Light

At its core, the Lion's Gate Portal isn't about waiting for the universe to hand you a magic download at exactly 8:08 on 8/8. It's about giving yourself permission — permission to be seen, to want things boldly, to take up space, and to trust that you're allowed to shine as brightly as you actually are.

Whether you fully believe in the astrological alignment or you simply love the ritual of it, this window is a beautiful excuse to pause, get honest about what you want, and dress, decorate, and journal your way into a more radiant chapter. Light your candle, write your list, put on something a little gold and a little bold — and let this Leo season remind you exactly who you're becoming.
