Inspired Decorating: having a moment with chinoiserie

Lately around here, we have been discussing a lot about Feng Shui. I am always doing research for you. I enjoy learning new things to not only share and inspire my clients but to share with you too. As I learn more and more about the art of decorating for Chi + good energy flow throughout the home, I fall more in love with moments of chinoiserie. 

I can remember when I was young, black lacquer and brass chinoiserie screens, trays, items around the home were in such style. I loved that chic 90's vibe and I am finding it inspiring harmony in a totally glam yet chic bohemian way. 

I've always been a major fan of these glam screens. Did you catch the one in Jessica's bedroom tour? I was so inspired by this bedroom look, I decided to go on the hunt for some new black and gold bedside tables and I kind of wanted something with an element of chinoiserie. 

Over the weekend, I went to my favorite thrift haunt, Scout Design Studio and found the perfect black and gold chinoiserie style bedside tables. Can't wait to show you them in my bedroom. Here is a little peek: 

Okay, so they could totally be tacky but I am obsessed. They are exactly what I was wanting. The key to doing tacky chinoiserie well is getting the balance right. Just a pop is all you need and that will make a major impact.

Of course the DeGournay wallpaper is always going to be classic and so glamorous. Don't shy away from this on your wall. Just keep it fresh by pairing it with more modern and tailored finishings to keep it current and not outdated.

Weekend decorating idea: How to develop your signature decorating style

Unpopular opinion: An all white or beige home to me, is incredibly dull and boring. I literally can’t stand when I see the same decor style in every single persons home on my instagram feed. Please, for the love of god, find your own personal decor style!!

What’s interesting, I always get so many compliments and comments on little areas of my home, from how I decorate my spiritual altar to my bedroom vanity.

So, I am so excited to share today's chic bohemian glam home bedroom, the second I saw it I was madly inspired. This is the bedroom of my girl, Jessica Rowe, artist behind @theaestate. You probably remember her from the Winter issue of ISTA magazine! She's a total girl boss and glamorous little bohemian with an unapologetic  sense of style. 

What I love about her most, is that she has harnessed her signature style so well and its starting to show through her home. I always encourage my clients to pay attention to the colors and the items that you are most intuitively drawn to in order to uncover your 'look'. 

I was soooooooo excited to see her copy of my Blissful Living book on her bedside table. She totally embodies what Blissful Living is all about. 

The colors that I see radiate through are amethyst purple, moments of leafy green, canvas white and glamorous gold. All of these constants are throughout layered together in a chic bohemian way. 

In Feng Shui, the color purple is symbolic of spirituality, intuition and creativity. All elements of her personality and her work. Her artwork and spiritual figures throughout the home complete the decoration of that signature style. She also adds elements of vintage finds in gold which add an edginess to the whole feminine mix. 

This is almost like a really fabulous outfit for your space. 

I couldn't help but gush over her lush bath situation. I take a detox salt bath almost every night and this just seems like a dream. Can you imagine how connected you would feel relaxing in this tub? 

Here's a step-by-step guide to help you discover and develop your own decorating style:

1. Gather Inspiration: Start by gathering inspiration from various sources. Browse through interior design magazines, websites, social media platforms (such as Pinterest and Instagram), and even visit home decor stores. Save or bookmark images and designs that catch your eye and resonate with you.

Organize the images by color, patterns, furniture styles, and any other elements that attract you. This will help you identify common themes and preferences.

3. Identify Your Preferences: Analyze your mood board and take note of the recurring themes and elements. Are you drawn to minimalism or a more eclectic look? Do you prefer bright and bold colors or a more neutral palette? Understanding your preferences is crucial in defining your personal style.

4. Consider Your Lifestyle: Your decorating style should reflect your lifestyle. Consider how you use your space, whether you entertain frequently, have kids or pets, or work from home. Practicality and functionality are essential factors to consider when developing your style.

5. Explore Colors: Colors play a significant role in interior design. Think about the colors you are naturally drawn to and how they make you feel. You can create a cohesive and personalized style by choosing a color palette that reflects your personality and complements your space.

6. Experiment with Patterns and Textures: Patterns and textures add depth and visual interest to your decor. Experiment with different textures such as wood, metal, glass, fabric, etc. Mixing and matching patterns can also create a unique look that speaks to your individuality.
