Weekend decorating idea: Create yourself a sanctuary

There is nothing I love more than creating sanctuaries. The proper definition for Sanctuary is 'a place of refuge or safety. That is truly what your home should be, a place that calms you and keeps you safe. Does your home make you feel that way?

If not, I highly recommend reading my book, Blissful Living. It will show you how and why its so important to create a sacred space for yourself to design a beautiful life. Here is a page from my book that is one of my favorites. . .

Think about how you inhabit your home and how well you take care of yourself and your family there. For me, my home is a place that is the backdrop for how I get up in the morning and start my day, enjoy my coffee, take my vitamins, burn my favorite candles, style beautiful vignettes, relax and watch movies, make beautiful meals, write in my journal, take detoxifying baths. It helps me do the very best to take care of myself. When life brings the difficult moments, its absolutely my place for refuge. 

After a few weeks of desperately needing the time and sacred space to nurture myself through some of the hardest times, I have only done more to add elements to my home that needed some enhancing. I added some plants, added a running water feature, a new storage system for my journals and crystals, I also got a new beautiful set of tea cups. This weekend, take some time out to enhance your home for self care. (Another thing I did was hit up TJMaxx for a yoga mat, some vitamins, stretch bands to make sure I keep up with my fitness). 

Here are a few questions to consider while enhancing your sanctuary this weekend. . .

Decorate your home for Pisces season

A lot has happened since the New Year but now it's time to take a breather and see how much progress we've made before the start of the new astrological year next month. The sun moved into Pisces on February 18th and we're all called to kick into creative mode. Pisces is not only the last water sign but also the last sign of the zodiac represented by two fishes moving in different directions. Pisces is flexible, creative and imaginative and what better way to bring these traits into your life than to decorate with this mutable sign in mind.

Pisces Season Tip #1: Transform Your Bedroom to Encourage Sleep

Pisces is the last sign of the zodiac and rules the 12th house in an astrological chart. The 12th house governs our subconscious feelings, which includes dreams. Pisces is a very intuitive/psychic sign and many of them have vivid dreams. A great way to heighten your own intuition is by making your room more comfortable to encourage better sleep. So invest in some high quality sheets and a down comforter, get a cute dream catcher and diffuse some lavender essential oil before going to bed. Don't forget to limit your electronics at least one hour before sleeping. Do these things and you'll really know the meaning of sweet dreams.

Pisces Season Tip #2: Incorporate Sound

Pisces' ruler is Neptune, god of the sea and in astrology rules spirituality, psychic energy, and creativity - including music. People with strong Neptune/Pisces energy in their natal chart can be gifted in the arts, particularly music. Music can be great for the soul so invest in a wireless speaker system like a Beats Pill or Alexa and keep your favorite Spotify or Apple playlist on repeat. Or keep it old school and get a cool vintage record player.

Pisces Season Tip #3: Embrace Your Creativity

Pisces is one of the most creative signs of the zodiac. In fact, many creative geniuses such as Steve Jobs, Albert Einstein, Rihanna and Dr. Seuss were born under this sign. A great way to embrace your own creativity is by incorporating something hand-made into your space. This could be a painting that you worked on yourself, or even a unique piece purchased from Etsy or a flea market. I encourage you to try to make something yourself because it will empower you and who knows, whatever you make could become your new side hustle!

Pisces Season Tip #4: Treat your Feet

Every zodiac sign rules a part of the body and as the last sign of the zodiac, Pisces rules the feet. Pisceans can be sensitive to their environment so it's important that they feel comfortable in their own home. You too can add some simple luxury to your home by investing in plush bath mats, a comfortable area rug or at the very least some top of the line house slippers. Kick your comfort up a notch by keeping a pumice stone and foot scrub in your shower for at-home pampering.

Pisces Season Tip #5: Mix Styles

As the last sign of the zodiac, Pisces takes on and incorporates energy from the other 11 zodiac signs. And as a mutable sign, they tend to have chameleon tendencies. Many people are inclined to decorate using inspiration from one design style but if you're trying to bring Pisces energy into your home, you would be better off mixing several different design styles. So go ahead and take a risk because who says mid century modern can't look good with Hollywood Glam? You're the master of your own domain so go for it!
