Decorista Trend Spotting: decorating with dramatic lighting

I am seeing from-the-sea decor so much lately and I am finding myself smitten with the look. Kimberly Ayers uses these gorgeous coral-like light fixtures in her decor. I strongly suggest incorporating this look through beautiful + dramatic light fixtures like these. Genius!

Vanessa de Vargas also killed it with this dining room! The light fixture is AMAZING and how about that gorgeous peacock wallpaper? I mean, we all know how much I just love birds.
The collection of mirrors...well I am just smitten with the look. love!

NYC city girl style...Carol Prisant

This is the apartment of writer and American editor of World of Interiors, Carol Prisant.
It's so interesting to see where writers live, such creativity and emotion in their decor. It is always a nice juxtaposition when  a writer, who writes about decor and interiors, decorates. I usually love the outcome because it is a mixture of both worlds, such a fun a different treat.

Her wallpaper is by Brunshwig + Fils, so fun, and it's her favorite. It works well with her collection of vintage floral art portraits and many antiques. I love the mint wall color in the bathroom, not something you see everyday. Ruffles, lace and beads are all over her bedroom and the funky lucite furniture adds a dash of modern to her romantic pad. With her collection of busts and cute monkey side tables, I will go out on a limb and say I think she seems like a super fun gal, no?

Oh so chic boutiques...Tory Burch

Like many of you I am a huge fan of Tory Burch. I rock a TB black leather bag + wallet every single day. I happen to make the drive down Robertson Blvd on the regular and I always pass by her store. The bright orange + deep green color combo just absolutely inspires me. Such an interesting and distinct color combination that she chose for her store front. I am kind of obsessing over it.
So I went a little deeper and did some research of her many boutiques. I love the uses of mirrors throughout, keeps the place looking jazzy. The light fixtures are so amazing, don't get me started. The walls are so exciting, and her colors and extremely bright and fun, just like her. Love!

secret of domestic bliss #30...decorating with birds

Sometimes, decorating can be daunting when you are trying to create a welcoming + cozy home but you feel like your look is a little stuffy. The key is adding whimsical touches to your space. If you don't have a bevvy of whimsical items around and you appreciate being "clutter-free", try throwing birds into your decor. There are a multiple ways to incorporate this adorable and happy animal.
I personally love elephants, but lately, I have been utterly inspired to throw in a few birds to my apartment...and I must say, they absolutely make me smile!
See if you can spot the cuties...

The Art of Living...dinner party goodness

There is nothing this decorista loves more than throwing a good dinner party.
Here are some things to remember when having one yourself...
1. Pick a theme...whether it is just a color scheme or an all out theme, set a signature look + rock it.
2. Create a signature cocktail...and let guests bring the wine or bubbly.
3. Set up appetizers immediately...munching guests = happy guests!
4. Have assigned seating...separate couples and seat boy, girl, boy, girl, always.
5. Smelling good is essential...make sure the guest bathroom is full of super yummy soaps + sprays and candles that smell good are throughout.
6. Keep the music exotic...brazilian, italian, or spanish music in the background edifies the mood.
7. Break out the goods...your best dishes, best silver, use everything you have for anything, like a gorgeous teacup for the salsa or your precious china for the butter + bread.
Don't keep anything beautiful hidden. It makes it that much more pretty of a party.
8. Always over dress...encourage your guests to dress up and look fabulous. Who wants to attend a party with bad fashion?

kelly wearstler, trina turk and LA design bloggers

Had a fabulous time at the Kelly Wearstler book signing yesterday.
It was held at the Trina Turk store in West Hollywood which was designed by Kelly back in 03 and let me tell you, it was adorable. While Kelly signed her books, Trina showcased her latest collections and they were to die for!

Peachy-pink delicious walls that feel as creamy as silk and the beautiful bubble light fixtures gave an effervescent feeling to the soiree. The place was buzzing and peachy champagne was making the rounds, it was such adelightful event.

Jami did a fabulous job taking pictures and capturing the feel and the beautiful little vignettes of her home accessories collection. I was swooning over it all.

Later we went off to meet up with some of our favorite Los Angeles design bloggers, Laura + Eileen and had a dish session all about blogging + design! We got the most adorable bracelets from ShopDesignSpark. I am totally in love with it and never taking it off!

Wanted to share all of the loveliness with you guys. Hope you all have a beautiful weekend!
