MEET OUR NEW CONTRIBUTOR: DINA for NYC Fabulosity Friday

Morning lovely readers! My name is Dina and I am a design student here in New York. I am thrilled to share with you my decor perspective, starting today on my
NYC Fabulousity Fridays.
I'll be taking you on a personal decorista tour of the most fabulous city in the world....

As anyone who has ever spent more than a minute in New York can attest, this city is filled with fabulous. It is absolutely impossible to uncover all that is fab but I keep trying each week.  While Morgan will be covering couture and color I will be giving you updates on the amazingness taking place in New York and how this city continues to sharpen my design focus.
For our first Fabulousity Friday I will be highlighting the infamous Rose Bar located too conveniently across the street from my apartment. Ian Schrager’s landmark hotel, The Gramercy Park Hotel hosts this fabulous lounge/bar where Rose is a common theme in decor and drinks alike (insider tip: the Rose and Lychee Martini is a must).

My following fabulous finds for the week have all been inspired by the Rose Bar in one way or another.

HOW TO RE CREATE THIS FEEL IN YOUR SPACE:
  1. Horns | While Rose bar is dominated by pink tones and cushy velvet, the bar still maintains a masculine feel making it a popular destination for both genders. Horns similarly are an excellent accessory to add masculinity to any space.
  2. Balinese Woods | Rose Bar is by far the sexiest destination in NYC, the place even smells sexy and I am not quite sure how to explain that, but I recently discovered Balinese Woods by Burn. The smell is intoxicating. Although Peony Blanche by Nest has been a longtime favorite I have been overcome by Balinese Woods AND it reminds me of Rose Bar.
  3. Tufted Blush Pink Velvet Sofa | This upholstered sofa is so glam and so versatile (pink? versatile- its true!). The soft blush color makes it an easy piece to pair with soft yellows and greys for a mature look or pale lilacs for a more girly ambiance. Add mirrored furniture to glam it up or accessorize with golds and brass to tone down the “girly” stereotype that pink is associated with.
  4. Checkered file box | If you noticed in the image of the Gramercy Park Hotel, the floors are checkered black and white almost identical to the file box. The Rose Bar incorporates so many different textures, materials, shades, and elements yet the mix is totally ethereal- I am all about doing the same in the home to create ultimate domestic bliss. This file box is totally practical and fun to look at.
  5. Horse Photo | The Rose Bar is constantly circulating artwork although one can always spot a Warhol somewhere within. I recently discovered that Shine by SHO has a lovely collection of unique photographs. This horse one may be my favorite.
See you all next week! Love,

bliss in the kitch' {gorgeous chandeliers}

I am just over the moon for jewels in the kitchen...

They are the ultimate indulgence for your eyes. Especially if you love to be in the kitchen a lot, like me. It's got to be a fabulous and spectacular space filled with glam accessories, no?
I'm heading to High Point Market this weekend and am beyond excited. Will be keeping my eyes out for the perfect chandeliers to put in my teeny apartment. Remember the photo of the gorgeous chandelier from last week? I think its exactly what my little apartment needs.

happy weekend decorista daydreaming lovelies!

Secret of domestic bliss #58...cocktail hour essentails

With the resurgence of 60's style all over our television and movie screens...
I just can't get over the domestically blissful thought of 'cocktail hour'. I just imagine Frank Sinatra and his pack of boys listening to crooner songs and laughing away. I can also remember as a young girl, visiting family in New York and instinctively knowing when it was cocktail hour during Christmas. The fire was a blaze and crackling ice made music to the edges of the beautiful crystal glassware.
Oh, the joys of cocktail hour.
So, as you all can imagine I relish the lovely decorations of the bar cart. Stunning glassware, beautiful dishes for nuts and the like, crystal decanters, all so glamorous.
There is no shame in adding flowers to the vignette either, keeps it domestic and feminine.
My two favorite words.
Also, adding anything vintage really just tops it off to perfection.
Cheers to fall!

COUTURE + COLOUR: BRILLIANT BLUE

I was never a huge fan of blues for interiors, but I love rich, bold blues in fashion!

It wasn’t until my first apartment in New York that I gave blue a shot by painting my walls Brilliant Blue by Benjamin Moore.  After seeing how vibrant the walls were, I immediately fell in love with the color!

    1. Peter Som’s 2012 Spring Collection is fabulous with color. When I saw this ombre blue dress I knew it was the perfect couture inspiration image for this post. I would love to own this dress!! Is it me or does the model have a farmer’s tan on her leg??

    2. Check out this everywhere blue storage/shelving unit! It has a monochromatic vibe which is always a plus in my book!! Super simple by having it all one color but the simplicity is beautiful!

    3. This image is of my first apartment in the city. See how Benjamin Moore’s Brilliant Blue makes everything pop? I loved it. Every time I walked in the door I felt happy to be home, and I know my blue walls had a big part to do with it!

    4. Studioitte.com has some amazing wallpapers! I’m dying to own this blue porcelain wallpaper one day! How amazing is this paper?! If you love the look of plates on the wall but hate the thought of them falling or even having to put them up, this paper solves your problems! Plus you don’t see this paper very often which makes it unique.

    5.   I have always loved this gradient blue side table by Paul Loebach. Four shades of blue were used to create an ascent of saturation from floor to the table top.So cute!!

    6.  This all blue chair comes from one of my favorite Etsy shops – Metrosofa! I think this blue vinyl French antique Louis armchair would fit into any room perfectly!!! This chair is sexy, it’s covered in blue!

Whether you paint the walls brilliant blue, bring the color in through wallpaper or furniture it is a color that is guaranteed to give some character to your space. It is bold and beautiful, this color has changed my ways on blues in interiors!

    Until next week… xoxo!!

Tablescape Tuesday: DIY decor ideas for a glam halloween tabletop

I absolutely love throwing theme dinner parties...
Sometimes there is nothing more fun than creating a super over the top tabletop. I recently worked with IVILLAGE on a halloween party article and it really inspired me. Halloween is one of those holidays you can get pretty wild. I am a huge fan of keeping a consistent theme and skull plates are such a cute and easy way to pull the look off.
Making glitter pumpkins is a super fun and crafty thing that adults and kids can enjoy. For some really fun + glittery ideas visit this crafty site.
Finally, I always love monochromatic candy in apothecary jars. There is something so stylish and fun about the look. Black and purple candy keep it very creepy.

office space of the day...the bedroom workspace

dreamy walls + perfect bedroom light + lucite armed chair + gorgeous glass desk =
domestic bliss
Being that my apartment is a studio...
my workspace is basically my bedroom.
So, today I am inspired by the beautiful workspaces situated right in the bedroom. There is something about it that is very hotel-like, and I secretly love it.
I love the mix of pretty purples in this bedroom, it's such a fabulous example of using the same color in different hues.
After seeing all of these gorgeous photos, I am ready to jazz up my home office....again!

Style-icious Sunday: living in the navy

With the crisp fall air and the winter season steadily approaching...
I am already preparing and NAVY is all I want right now.
Mostly because I am in maid-of-honor mode and planning my besties' wedding is making me love navy even more, we are thinking navy and pink...
So, as you can imagine, navy is all that is on my mind lately and I want to share the love.
Getting cozy in bed in a navy cashmere sweater is just screaming domestic bliss to me.
I love texture through fabrics, and these gorgeous navy silk drapes are so seductive to the senses.
Mix in a dash of gold for glamour and you have instant style!

Are you guys loving navy as much as I am, or is it just me?

Weekend Decorating: DIY decorating secrets for your beauty!

The weekend is already here again...
and I have several exciting things in store. My sister and best friend is coming in town and I get to show her the beauty of my new city. Speaking of beauty, getting all dolled up is part of the weekend fun.
So, with that in mind, I want to make sure all my things are beautifully displayed for us.
On my dresser are pretty trays and bowls that hold my products, they make everything look so glam.
I just love this idea for nail polishes. I love to keep mine out on display because of the pretty colors.
Always add candles and flowers for more feminine pleasure.

bliss in the kitch' {mirrors make it modern}

Modern kitchens are so what I live for right now. How incredibly genius are these mirrored cabinets...

Incase I haven't told you, I live for mirrored furniture. Right now mirrored coffee tables are my absolute favorite but when I saw this kitchen, it too that love to another level. I love mirrored cabinets now...very very chic.
there is something about a mirror that just does it for me. It can take any piece of furniture and just make it more modern, more glamorous. I am always finding pieces and wanting to add a mirrored effect.
Thoughts??? Do we love mirrored cabinets?

MEET OUR NEW CONTRIBUTOR: Morgan for Couture + Colour

Morning everyone! As you all know, living in NYC has been utterly intoxicating and extremely overwhelming all at the same time. As business grows and life gets more hectic, I feel I am being pulled in so many different directions I can hardly keep up.
My blog has been my baby for so long and basically nurtured my career, so I would never want to neglect my loving readers. So, we are going to shake things up around here on the blog and for starters we are throwing some contributors into the mix.
I've rounded up some super savvy and stylish decoristas to give you a peek behind design from their fabulous perspectives too! I just know you will love them just as much as I do.

FIRST UP...
Meet Morgan

Hello!! My name is Morgan. This is my first post as a contributor for The Decorista and I couldn't be more thrilled to share with all of you some of my favorite things in life.
Couture + Colour!
As an interior designer in New York City, I love being inspired by fashion whether it's a girls outfit next to me on the subway, on the runway, editorial or style blogs I love being inspired! I love the details in fashion, prints, color, texture, shape... I... love it all. One of my favorite details in interior design world is color! I am a color freak but only when it's done the right way. With my column I'm combining the two.

This weeks color is Yellow...
It's a color with many shades. The shade I'd like to focus on is the cheerful happy one.
I found this monochromatic image of a chic model dressed in head to toe in yellow sitting on a yellow NYC taxi cab. I thought it was the perfect yellow fashion inspiration image for this post!

1. Lord's South Beach Hotel in Miami designed by BHDM Design shows a great use of a simple painted yellow wall.
The color and simplicity let everything else in the image pop!
2. I love rich yellow window treatments and the puddling going on. Look at the other yellow detail in the room... yellow zebra fabric on the chairs. Is the little girl wearing yellow as well? I think so!
3. How beautiful is this dramatic tile design in this small bathroom? Such a clever/fun idea. You can create this with any color by using solid colors of mosaic tile.
4. This yellow chair from the Nub Collection by Patricia Urquiola for Andreu World is adorable and would fit perfectly into any space!

I'm looking forward to sharing Couture + Colour with you!
XOXO

Bliss in the kitch' {bright white and modern}

Please accept my apologies for...

the lack of posts over the weekend...I was a little distracted during the holiday festivites.
It was perfect weather and beach/pool time in the Hamptons. Blown away by the fact that it happened in October, so very California-like and I loved everything about it.
What was the most incredible part?
The home that I stayed in, it was enormous, modern, all glass windows and bright white with pops of pretty colors. So, today I am just jonesin' on bright white and modern spaces.

Harpers Bazaar: VERONICA SWANSON BEARD's COLORFUL DOMESTIC BLISS

Everything about this home tour is domestic bliss to me...
Cool minty blue walls and bright white pieces blend together so perfectly, especially with a touch of greenery.
Wouldn't you just freak for that chartreuse sofa mixed with pops of plum? I LIVE for it!
black and white stripes in the living room are ALL THE WAY LIVE!

10 things that rocked my world this week! October 8

1. Some hotels in NYC just really give you something good to gaze at. These rockin' bubble lights just absolutely did it for me...

2. Modern homes with all glass walls are EVERYTHING. This particular home is insanely cool with a funky piece of art in the entryway. So incredibly hip, I live for things like this...
3. New York fall mornings are my favorite...Starbucks coffee...walk in the park...sightseeing in my own neighborhood. Sometimes I almost pinch myself because I live in this city. It gives me the chills sometimes....like a kind of completely surreal and euphoric feeling. So so so grateful.
4. I don't know why but I love clocks with roman numerals. I have a small obsession with them and when I stumble upon them in the city, they just make me happy.
5. This week I started back at Soul Cycle TriBeCa...and I am so very into it.
6. Barbie photography is such a phenomenon and for some reason I just love them all so much. It's art that has the perfect mix of whimsy, humor and edgy-ness.
7. Red patent leather Betsey Johnson sky high heels with a laced heel. So chic.
8. The ever so popular piggy bank...usually seen in silver or gold but I fell in LOVE with the teal at Calypso Home.
9. Pink cupcakes for BREAST CANCER AWARENESS month. I love to support the cause!

10. Blogging from the Hamptons is the ultimate bliss!

The Art of Living: inspired bookcase styling

No longer are the days for bookshelves to be used for books...
Now it is the perfect place to display your most treasured accessories. I personally use this philosophy in my clients homes, especially in the city. Sometimes bookcases can be perfect for storing everyday essentials for easy access. I love gorgeous items and why not display those that you just adore the most!
