gold rush

Metallics have been making a huge comeback and this Christmas I have been bringing gold back into my home. I think it brings a bit of glamour to any outfit of any room.
I'm spending my holidays in Palm Springs this year, hoping to get some vintage shopping in.
I am ever in search of the perfect gold items to put some pizazz into my pad.
Here are some of my most inspirational favorites.

HOW TO GET MORE BUCKS FOR YOUR BUDGET

Inject some Hollywood glamour into your home with Kelly’s decorating dos…

BE PASSIONATE

Always choose a colour that you love. I am fearless when I select colour. I go into my library at the office and pull out 30 or more hues in different textures and tones and something amazing always happens – even if it feels as though it’s by accident. So go to your wardrobe and pull out ten things and just look at them. Never force style: if you love pink, then go with it. Follow your heart.

LOVE COLOUR

If you are not jumping for joy at the colour combination in front of you then don’t go for it. Colour is an emotional experience.

MIX IT UP

Fashion and art blend references, and you can do the same in interiors. Experiment with cool, unexpected colours and try new combinations.

JUXTAPOSE TEXTURE

If you decide to do a whole room in blue, you need something shiny, something matt and something with a little pattern. Without these three elements the room will not have energy or soul. You need a combination of big, medium and small textures. The weave of the fabric, the plaster on the walls and the pattern in the rug are crucial in building the overall picture.

DEVOUR IMAGES

Snap up and collect anything and everything you come across that catches your eye. And carry your camera around with you.

ENJOY FORAGING

Avoid buying your items in one place, as the room will end up looking the same. Build your collection slowly and branch out and shop everywhere, particularly at markets, auctions and car-boot sales.

GO MONOCHROME

I love black and white as it feels a little edgy and it works in any type of design. It’s the textures and materials that make it interesting. Black and white with a colour gives a crisp look and makes a room feel organised.

FIND YOUR INSPIRATION

Start with something you love – a painting, a carpet or a collection of stones, for example. If you have a pink abstract painting and you want it to be the big voice in the room, hang it on a contrasting coloured wall. But if you want to be subtle, then hang the pink painting on a pink wall. One way creates drama and the other harmony.

LOOK AROUND YOU

In LA we are not rooted in traditional design. We have the film business and everyone is trying to do ‘the next big thing’. That means we live surrounded by an incredible mix of things. That can be very freeing.

hostess with the mostess

Right now I prepping for my holiday party tomorrow night.
Lot's to do...
Champage to buy, napkin rings to pull out, flowers to arrange, and shoes to match my new outfit I got for the occasion.
Tomorrow the guests will arrive, and not only will I be wearing a glamorous outfit,
I will be wearing one of my most favorite aprons.
But, sadly, I am desperately wishing I had a new one.
Jessie Steele makes my favorite accessories for the hostess.
You cannot miss her stuff.
Check her website out, they make the perfect gift for any hostess....trust me!

Rooms that rock my world!

While reading my heart out in the blogging world today, I came across this photo
from the fantastic blog, by Julie, bellemaison.
I absolutely love her blog and all of her inspirational images.
This one peaks my interest especially because I am so feeling purple right now.
My bedroom is purple and gold, but I love the way the green provides a fun color to pop with.
This pictures just screams 'domestic bliss'!!!

Christmas tree, oh Christmas tree.

Dear Christmas Tree aka Chrissy,
I absolutely love everything about you. Your smell, your fullness, your lights, your skirt,
and all of your beautiful earrings!
All that goes into dressing you makes me so happy.
Listening to Christmas music and the smell of cinnamon candles all around
warms my heart. Thank you for being the best part of our home
and for making all the neighbors just a wee bit jealous.
We love you.

JESUS IS THE REASON FOR THE SEASON!

I just love Monday nights, the weekend is over and I have already begun to attack my week.
Feeling good...
and now I am awaiting my ritual monday evening Gossip Girl fiesta.
We all get cozy on the couch and watch the lives of our most favorite
New York socialites.
So good and juicy.
I love the Van Der Woodsen apartment.

Kelly Wearstler HUE

It's here, It's here! It's finally here.
I have been awaiting this book for oh so long.
It is perfectly titled, 'Hue', because the colors in this book are outrageous
I respect her so much because she breaks the mold every time.
True 70's + 80's style is back in and her whimsical style gives it the perfect complements.
I am reading through it and devouring the pages over and over.
I think for any girl who loves to decorate, this book will give you some insight for what's to come in design.
I heart kelly wearstler!
(always the ultimate cover girl)
(so loving purple and gold right now)

all on the western 'cold front'

No matter the weather here in Los Angeles, us girls break out our UGG's.
Uggs are an ultimate staple in any LA girls wardrobe....
I have a few pair, but seeing as this cold front is freezing the heck out of my apartment,
I need to invest in a new pair...
I have them in beige, tan and brown and for a girl who wears all black, i'm thinking
BLACK!
I am dying for these, exclusively made for NORDSTROM
Need these now!

the joy of thrifting

In Los Angeles, there are so many places to shop. It isn't however, until you stumble upon a hidden jewel of  a thrift store that you can actually feel happy!
My sweetheart and I did some mega-shopping this weekend.
His mom is an interior designer so he has been raised around decor and style.
He is a natural! I am so proud of him.
He has a 70's swanky vibe going on in his apartment
and we found the perfect lamp to add to the decor.
We felt it was a total score!
Yay for us, mega-thrift-shoppers.
The day was a total blast.

(Here is the swanky, gold with a green undertone, gem)
So excited about his findings.

(After pictures to come soon!)

Design IdoL: Abigail Ahern

Abigail Ahern is the wonderfully talented mastermind behind the book 'A girls guide to Decorating'. This woman is mind-blowingly creative and actually pretty funny too. Her style is followed by most design fanatics in the UK. She has a sort of fun and free approach to decorating. She has a book out, a textiles line, fantastic wallpapers, and some tounge-in-cheeck accessories to boot. She has accomplished so much for herself, how could she not be my idol? This woman is definitely one to watch out for, she will be world famous someday!

peacocks for the home

Oh, how I love looking into to the homes of super stylish individuals. I find it intriguing and exciting the moment I step in a friends home for the first time.
Thank goodness for Apartment Therapy home tours. It allows me indulge this hobby at home from the comfort of my very own laptop.
This particular woman, an event planner from Philadelphia, has inspired me to make my apartment a bit more colorful. Elizabeth who blogs for Peacock Feather Events has openly shared her home with the world wide web. It's cute, fun and extremely creative.
Here are some images of her cozy space. Enjoy!

I adore the zebra stool

The neon tray sitting on the coffee table makes for a perfect piece to offset the pillow collection.

LOVE the peacock figurines
wouldn't it be such a treat to do laundry in this happy room?
