my furniture revamp weekend {DIY goodness}

So, I haven't actually finished my red painted piece of furniture (its still in the works)
However, I do want to share with you what else I worked on this weekend.
I found this super amazing credenza on my street a few weeks ago.
I knew instantly that it would be a perfect piece for my bedroom and with a little white glossy paint
it became perfection!
I am so in love with it. It stores all of my handbags and other items that need to be stowed away.
In other blissful news,
my little sophie is just the cutest pup ever.
So, I made a little painting of her silhouette for my art wall in my bedroom.
It's almost finished so I will post pics soon.

Hope you guys all had a wonderful weekend.
Did you do any DIY makeovers???? I wanna see!
(sooo my favorite thing about blogging...seeing what other people can do)
happy  monday!

Decorista Trend Spotting: painted red furniture

This weekend I have been up to lots and lots of projects.
Repainting furniture has gotten the best of me, I'm hooked.
So, lately I have been noticing bits of red catching my eye.
I know we all took notice of this gorgeous apartment in Lonny Mag.
The red console dresser in her hallway did not go unnoticed by moi. I fell instantly in love with the glossy redness of it. I love the drawer with tons of jewels packed in. Ooh la la.
Makes me want to repaint something red, STAT!

Zgallerie boot umbrella stand {my entryway}

I am absolutely obsessed with my Zgallerie boot umbrella stand. It sits so perfectly in my apartment entryway. Honestly, the minute I laid eyes on that fella, I just knew I had to have one.
Every person that walks in my apartment door just gushes over it. Cute and affordable home decor, what's better?

I also strongly suggest grouping together a collection of vintage gold ornate frames...
(easy to find at your local thrift)
and grouping them on your wall for instant impact!!!!
Did all of this for less than 25$. A steal.

currently craving a little history and romance

There is something so very romantic about candles + dark rooms.
I don't know what it is, but I find it intoxicating!
Lately, I have been really inspired by anything that might resemble a bit of history or romance in interior design.
One of the most beautiful ways to add a nod to the past is by decorating with vintage portraits.
Gorgeous portraits of beautiful women, historical gents or breathtaking scenery evoke  a sense of mystery.
I always find myself thinking about the stories behind antique paintings like these.
(a la the girl with the pearl earring...i loved that movie)
Don't they just look lovely?

House Tour: a chic Scandinavian retreat

If you have been reading my blog, you can see my current love for open shelving + globe pendant lamps, hasn't halted...at all.
In fact, when I spotted this adorable kitchen, I fell instantly for it. The beautiful wall color and the flooring also took my breath away. What I would give for a kitchen with open windows like that?

As I came to look more at this beautiful home tour, I went gaga for this amazing outdoor room.
Notice the huge windows, orange pendant lamp and sliding doors opening to a bright outdoor room.
The funky pink chairs + outreagous orange walls looks extremely stylish.

I would be thrilled to entertain in a home like this one.
The dining room chairs had me at Hello.
Gorgeous, isn't it?
It is definitely a home with some Scandinavian swagger.
I love it!

The Art of Living...how to decorate open shelving with style

I have always been a fanatic for open shelving. I absolutely love the way it looks in a space. It allows for complete freedom when personalizing your space.Have you ever been to someones home and stared at what they displayed in open shelving? It speaks volumes to a person or family's story, where they have been, what they love, etc.Personally, I don't have much open shelving, but I am always looking for ways to incorporate some in my apartment. I genuinely love so many things I own and want to display them all.
Here is some inspiration for decorating your open shelving and giving it a chic + stylish look.

“What’s Your Style in One Picture Challenge!”

Ally over at From the Right Bank has given us bloggers a challenge...
define your style in one photo.
Now, I am the first one to let everyone know I never really feel like I can define my style,
but this room has always just spoken to me.
As much as I love me some bright colors, the muted color palate in this room makes my heart skip a beat.
The carpet, the white vanity with lucite pulls, the beautiful screen, and everything else, i just LOVE it!
It's totally traditional with hints of a glamourous and bohemian style...i think it just speaks volumes of what I truly love!

inspired! {a DIY furniture inspiration}

I just adore blue and white in the bedroom.
I recently found a dresser/sideboard on my street (i love it when that happens)
its fabulous. it has some amazing bones and I am planning a makeover of it.
These photos below are giving me some serious inspiration.
I love the white dresser with light blue details.
I cant wait to get to work!

Dear Decorista, {decorating a powder room}

Dear Decorista,
Love your blog!! I'm on a mission to self-decorate my home, and your blog is a major source of inspiration for me. I have a question regarding light fixtures. I currently have a really beautiful and elaborate (in my opinion) fixture in my small powder room, and can't decide if using a sconce or two would be overkill. I also need to find a mirror, but feel like I should work out the sconce or no sconce situation first. So what's your opinion on overhead fixtures AND sconces? Should one be elaborate and the other be more toned down?
Thanks again!

Elizabeth in Arkansas

Dear Elizabeth,
Oh how I love love love powder rooms and I am thrilled to help you out a little today. Thank you so much for your sweet words about my blog, I hope to inspire you always!
So...first of all, I love your wallpaper as I'm sure most of my readers do too. The green is perfection in my opinion.
I absolutely think you can combine sconces to go along with your gorgeous light fixture. In smaller rooms, I think combinations really pack a punch.
I am envisioning it would look a little something like this...
fabulous!

I think a white mirror would work really well with the color of your wallpaper.
I am partial to bamboo mirrors right now. They just look really chic and happy.
I have found tons out and about at different thrift stores in my area, so if you can't afford a new one keep your eyes out for an older one and just spray paint it glossy white.
A little something like these....

As for your sconces, I say don't be afraid to use what you love.
This ornate and large chandelier looks fantastic with a pair of simple sconces.
I think its a killer combination.
Something like this sconce with a small, pretty clear crystal ball detail would go great with your light fixture and keep it looking crisp and clean.
More inspiration!

One of my favorite pair of sconces from one of my fave resources...check them out.

Let me know if you have more questions for sources...I'd be happy to help.
Good luck decorating Elizabeth and send pics when you are finished!!!!!
