10 things that rocked my world this week! march 26

First and foremost, I want to say, I am kind of on cloud nine right now. So many blessed opportunities have happened to me this week and even the weeks before. Taking the opportunities in NYC was the best decision I have ever made and honestly a dream come true. I'd never be able to be living my dream if it wasn't for my readers and supporters of my blog and network of amazing friends and family. So thank you from the bottom of my little decorator heart. omg. thank you.
 1. My very first NYC design project photo shoot. I honestly had a blast and loved the energy of the day!

2. I went to the Film Forum with some girlfriends in the city to see the Bill Cunningham film. It was absolutely astounding. I haven't seen a documentary this good since...well maybe ever. His life is incredible and his part in the fashion world just blew me away. If you ever get the opportunity to see this, don't miss it. It will change the way you look at fashion. and leave you wanting to dress better too!
3. The Architectural Digest show was jumpin last weekend. I went with my girlfriends to check out what it was all about and I have to say the new traditionalists booth was amazing. My favorite hands down.
4. Sometimes there is just a shoe that makes you go so incredibly insane because you couldn't possibly imagine walking out of the store without them. This is how I fell about these gorgeous white python studded and spiked heels. so mayjor!
5. I finally got to meet the incredibly talented artsist Lana Gomez. She is an LA girl too, and we're huge fans of each other, but it took us all the way to a NYC art show to get to meet each other. love love love her and her artwork is ridiculously good. Check her out.
6. Snickerdoodles. I never get time to relax in new york. ever! But I did get lucky enough to have a girlie fun night and watch old Elizabeth Taylor movies and bake snickerdoodles with my new NYC bestie.
7. Saying goodbye to the NYC weather and jetting to LA. Such a fabulous feeling to get back to the land of sun. (even if there is a bit of rain in LA too. its still gorgeous)
8. Hello to the sister. There is nothing and I mean absolutely nothing like seeing your family when you haven't seen them in a while. Total domestic bliss!
9. It was such a fun day of the trade at The Avenues. I so enjoyed speaking on the design blogger panel with such fab LA Style + Design bloggers.
10. It's baby shower day for my favorite decorator in the world today. Horaay!

The Decorista tip of the day...be color confident

Loving this saturday morning in LA. So excited to be back to the city of lots and lots of color!
So, as I'm sure you could get the minute I laid my eyes upon this photo, I died a little. OMG that is some major color action. How completely gorgeous is this colorful jewel toned living room spread? I mean come on, a teal chevron sofa, magenta chairs, minty green ruffled curtains. Major swoonage happening here...so please, never be afraid to use or mix lots of bold color!

the most fabulous gold mirrors + where to put them

Today I will be bustling around WeHo attending the design events and I am so delighted about it!
I'm excited to meet all of the other designers and design bloggers. What I am most excited about, however, is checking out all of the amazing pieces at each showroom. I'm sure they will be putting out the best of the best for all of our eyes to see. What I'm most entranced by at the moment.....outrageously good gold mirrors. So in love...

bliss in the kitch' {how to add a dash of color to your cooking space}

It's not easy to get color in a kitchen when you have white cabintery and stainless steel appliances, which is pretty standard. Modern kitchens are more often than not...colorless. Do not fret, I found the perfect solution. A gorgeous pop of glossy color on the ceiling makes for the perfect place to add a dash of your favorite color. So smitten by the pop of aqua in this beautiful + modern kitch'. Genius!

Flying the friendly skies back to Los Angeles today for the fabulous festivities that are West Week. Where the best of the best in design get together and have an excuse to network, learn and play!
If you are in LA, you must attend all of these amazing events. It's ridiculously fun....
The Avenues also puts on a massively amazing "day for the trade" and I am lucky enough to be speaking on a panel of amazing LA bloggers. Check it out.

moments of domestic bliss with Elizabeth Taylor

My heart broke a bit yesterday morning when I heard the news about Elizabeth Taylor going to God yesterday. Kind of a depressing moment, as she was a huge icon in my life. I watched many moments on tv with montages of her life. It got my trying to imagine the interiors she must have experienced. The decor in her homes must have been magnanimous and the set decor had to be ridiculously wild. So, I wanted to take a moment today and remember her most beautiful moments of domestic bliss...

The Art of Living: canopied bed luxury

I never thought this day would come, but I literally am speechless over this bedroom. Wow. What can I say, who doesn't dream of a gorgeous canopied bed draped with sumptuous fabric to just swallow you in as you fall yourself to sleep? It's the perfect epitome of what I imagine domestic bliss to be. For now, I will obsess over making the switch to a four poster bed. So luxurious and perfect high style, they are just as fabulous and will give me the illusion of a dreamy canopy...

The Decorista tip of the day...moments of red

Every so often I run into the friend who is in desperate need of updating their decor. Yet, we run into the  same old problem...white walls. One sure fire way to freshen up white walls is to throw in a bit of red to the mix. Instantly brightens things up. I am loving this eclectic and bohemian mix.

Tablescape Tuesday: pretty pops of yellow

Nothing says spring like a bright and sunny pop of yellow in your tabletop decor. Come to think of it, nothing says spring like dining al fresco...my favorite. I'm heading back to LA this week to hit up west week (all sorts of fun design festivities happening) and all I can think about is an outdoor baby shower that I am going to attend. I'm on the decor committee, of course, and right now all signs are pointing me to a teeny pop of yellow.

The Decorista Library: Metropolitan Home Design 100

So loving this book right now. Design 100 by the powerhouse publishers, Filipacci, knocked it out of the "design" park with this one. It features 100 of the best of the best elements of design. Genius! I actually learned a lot reading this book, it opened my eyes to designs that I never would have dreamt of.

I was impressed by the amazing pages...

style-icious Sunday {south of france serenity}

Life in NYC is fabulous...don't get me wrong, but sometimes I feel like I just need to take a nap. There is so much going on in the city and now that the weather is getting better I am dreaming of a nice vacation to the south of France. I'd love to take in the sights, the gorgeous weather and the absolutely dreamy decor. Elegant moldings, delicate details, ornate pieces, layers and layers of super luxurious textiles, and the most amazing views your heart could dream of...

The Art of Living...getting creative with headboards

My mind is filled with creative ideas today. I found this gorgeous quilt that reminded me of this photo and it got me thinking about different and unique headboards.
I love the idea of an original one of a kind headboard. It creates an unexpected visual interest in the bedroom. Here are some ideas to get your mind going... just let the creativity flow.

10 things that rocked my world this week!

1. My staple NYC uniform. Black blazer, black knee high boots and leggings. Mixed with different accessories, it keeps me dressed and ready to go from day to night since I am always on the go. Black is a god-send.
2. A super fun gift from an incredible fan of my blog. This is the work of a new york street artist who personalizes those fun ghetto-fabulous trucker hats. It's adorable and pink with the NYC skyline in the back ground. So fun!
3. Thank goodness for the FIAF, who hosted an amazing lecture by Tory Burch. It was incredibly inspiring. Not only is she extremely talented, she is very smart and oh so business savvy. Wow. I was so impressed plus every girl was wearing the latest and greatest of Tory Burch accessories. loved it!
4. Running into my hairdresser from LA randomly on the street...only in NYC! Dean Banowetz is my go to guy for the perfect hair! He is the genius behind the Instyler and the guy who created all amazing hair on American Idol (remember sanjayas mohawks?). Such a lovely surprise, we had to grab dinner together and talk about what's new in hair. This guy is MAJORly amazing. Stay tuned for his bravo show...the Dean's list.
5. Went to a fabulous book signing for UNDECORATE, the latest book by Christiane Lemieux of  Dwell Studio. The stylish soiree was at the Ace Hotel nyc. OMG the hotel was so cool, the walls were gorgeous, everything was perfect and oh so much fun!
6. This photo of my client's husband showing off his new metallic wallpaper sample to his brother. Major husband props for being excited about wallpaper. This made my week!
7. I finally got to experience JCREW bridal with some of my best girlfriends. My bestie is getting married this summer so the girls came to town for a dress fitting...it was so gorgeous, and a perfect city day to play in dresses and drink champagne.
8. The DVF tabletop decor display at Bloomingdale's was gorgeous. I finally got to see the beauty in person and let me tell you guys, its out of control! You would love.
9. Finally got a facial (have been dying for one) at Mario Badescu and it was incredible. There are no words... i bought everything.
10. Last but not least, my sweet little Michael Kors jet set black metallic python crossbody clutch has been my bff. It's the perfect size for all my running around the town essentials. You are a genius, Mr. Michael Kors.

dining room delights...the perfect dining chair

Today, I've got lots to get ready for before the end of the weekend. The Architectural Digest NYC show is on and I am so excited to check it out. But before all of that goodness, I have to get a few friends over for a dinner party (on of my best friends is in town to visit) and we are needing some extra seating in here, asap.
Lately, I'm into the look of patterned dining room chairs. In an otherwise plain room, a pop of pattern can give some energy and movement. I love how these greek key esque chairs look in this ultra sophisticated dining room. However, not only do graphic patterns go well, great color and fabulous textures can do amazing things too.

Some of my favorite dining room chairs...

loving this "liv-chic" space and the woodson & rummerfield green velvet chairs. GORGEOUS!
