art wall attractions

Last night I attended a very interesting art event. It wasn't an ordinary gallery showing, it was art on display in an upper east side apartment. Very fun. What was so interesting to me was the way that the art was displayed on the walls. The more art the better in this case, and it inspired me on the many different ways an art wall can work.
My favorite is this very streamlined and symmetrical look. So chic!

rooms that rock my world. {rooms with grandeur}

Something about each of these rooms has me weak in the knees. I'm constantly daydreaming about living in rooms like these. The saturation and mix of colorways are so beautiful. Each room has textures and fabrics that lend to sophisticated and elegant style. Not too much color, just the right touch of boldness.Very inspiring for my little ol decorator heart. The last room with the beautiful wallpaper, might just be my favorite. The pillows are perfect and that wood + gold art piece on the wall is absolutely genius.

Decorista Trend Spotting: art like fabric

I have been doing some serious fabric shopping around this city and something I am finding is that the latest in fabrics are very similar to beautiful paintings and artwork, I snapped some photos of a few I liked. I am really inspired by the look of these very graphic, black and white, ikat-ish prints. It's super gorgeous and luxurious looking, especially when used on seating with gorgeous lines like these. Like artwork on a chair...love it.

The Decorista tip of the day.... little bit of pink

Okay so most of us love a good art wall but we mostly see the same black and white look. I love this idea of adding pink matting to an art wall collection. It can pull together all kinds of different artwork for a really polished look. You don't need pink to make it work, blue, green or even orange will work...I adore it.

The Art of Living...how to decorate with screens

One of my clients had crazy misconception about decorating with screens. They saw a screen that they absolutely loved, but thought it wouldn't be of any use in their home because they don't want to divide up space. Well, I thought it would be appropriate to make sure that all of you know there are so many more uses for screens than just dividers. You can use them as a beautiful headboard, to soften a corner, or as a beautiful art piece on the wall. The larger scale, the better, they can always be a beautiful addition to any home.

Color combination of the day: black, white and wood

I love daydreaming of decor inspiration. Last week I was so into the look of pink and red for the romantic holiday season but today I am inspired by black and white as usual, however I am loving the addition of light woods. It adds just a hint of rustic and earthy to an otherwise stark combo.
I love it for this kitchen or a fabulous office space, and this bedroom is wonderful with this look as well

Style-icious Sunday {romantically red and in love}

With Valentine's Day approaching tomorrow love is definitely in the air and red is everywhere in the city. Pops of red are all in the beautifully decorated store windows, it's so delightful to see. Today I am inspired by the look of love, red and all things romantic.

How delicious are all red walls in a library?

I am completely coveting these shoes...ooh la la...the perfect V-day accessory.

There is nothing that says LOVE like Oscar de la Renta red!

Sometimes, something as a simple pop of red in a chandelier can be so dramatic and fun.
Hope you have all enjoyed your V-day weekend.

The Decorista takes NY: Lure Fish Bar, Soho

Everything in New York has been fantastic. The shopping, the dinner parties, the mag launches (rue, high gloss and matchbook), the art galleries, I have been having such fun. So far, this restaurant I went to the other day, Lure Fish Bar, really stuck out to me. For one, the decor was uber fun...it felt like you were dining on a cruise ship. It was packed, the music was great (think old 90's cruise ship songs like Carribean Queen by Lionel Richie) and the food was absolutely delicious. I love this place and if you ever come visit nyc, its a definite must go, especially for the decor!
