Decorating for Spring with Ruthie Sommers

Ruthie Sommers is a long time favorite interior decorista of mine. I love that she is not afraid of color. The minute I saw these pictures of her California home, I immediately got so excited for spring. I'm so ready for sunshine and lighter clothing that is all over the magazines these days. I am patiently anticipating the manhattan days I can spend reading a book at central park with no gloves on. Oh, Ruthie, she just gets my decorator mind going...Her master bedroom is one of my favorite girlie bedrooms ever! It's gorgeous. I am loving this home and so ready for the brighter colors that are spring...

Bliss in the kitch' & breakfast nook bliss

I truly believe that the kitchen is the heart of the home. On Saturday mornings, there is nowhere I'd rather be. This cute little grey kitchen just looks like pure happiness to me. I love the cute little ghost chair at the gorgeous wood table. Such a great mix of styles. The perfect compliment to a beautiful kitchen =
great breakfast nooks. Here are some that took my breath away...

Today I will be spending most of the day, sipping delicious coffee and working away at some projects on my computer. Lighting candles and a little music in the background...domestic bliss at its best.

Designer Crush: Estefania Carrero, Architectural Digest Spain

Loving the calm, creamy color palate of this gorgeous home by Madrid designer, Estefania Carrero. A mix of traditional glamour and sophistication. I am especially LOVING the mirrors on the back wall. In NYC, every apartment could really use at least one wall of mirrors. Its incredible how large wall of mirrors can make a space feel. So important with the crazy little square footage. I am really into the style.

Now for the rest of her incredible apartment...

Gorgeous artwork, fabulous accessories, incredible patterns and textiles.

the decorista NYC apartment inspiration {alexander wang}

For the time being I am staying with family in NYC and have now made the decision to get my very own apartment in the city. So this weekend I will be prancing merrily around the town looking at real estate...something I truly love. There is so much to consider when hunting for a space (i am open to any and all advice) but of course all I can think about is the inspiration. This alexander wang apartment is so right up my alley. I love the dreamy light walls, and accents of black and white glamour. What girl wouldn't love this high glossy style.

The Decorista trend spotting: spotted fabric

I adore this incredibly well styled vignette. Spotted fabric is all the rage right now and I am coveting some for my new space. A perfectly paired elegant wood dresser and gold mirror combo looks rich. The fabulous cat lamp with an orange shade mixes it up a bit and adds a touch of fun. Loving this mix.

Modern glamour: family living in Australia

With my clients, I am always hearing about how husbands and boyfriends are super picky about a space being not too glamorous or girlie. Then I stumbled upon this gorgeous family home with just the right amount of girlie glamour. The gorgeous ornate chandelier and beautiful detailed gold accents are just the right amount of feminine panache and super props to the husband who went for it.

It's been around for a long while, but this little guy is still in style and all over NYC. He comes in gold, silver and other fun colors like copper...adorable! Check out how stylish he makes any ol' abode. I am needing one of these babies bad.

Wallcolor Wednesday... signature decorista PINK

Pink is all the rage this year. It's everywhere you look... fashion, accessories and home decor. Hot pink is  The Decorista signature color so  I will always be a huge supporter of pink on the walls. True, most people will be intimidated by the color (especially the male population) but that doesn't make it any less worthy of being used. It always makes for a great accent wall and I hardly think it will leave you with a boring looking home. So, today I have corralled a post of beautiful PINK inspiration....

The Art of Living...using the right light fixtures

One of the things about living in a modern building that is not my favorite thing is standard lighting. I have a client with a gorgeous condo in a beautiful uptown high rise. It's absolutely gorgeous with floor to ceiling windows. During the day, the view of the city is immaculate and the beautiful bright light just nourishes the apartment so well. Problem is, they don't have adequate light at night. (who are these architects? jk) So today. all that is on my mind is out of this world light fixtures. I'm obsessed with finding things that have major style but also will give some good light.

In my search, I have found myself fawning over gorgeously designed light fixtures. Modern, rustic, retro, vintage, glass, lucite, there are just so many. I can only express how important it is to remember that even though its gorgeous, it needs to do its job, too!
Isn't this such a fun brass sconce? So vintage + cool.
